To flip or not to flip cellphone

I've only had one cell phone in my life and it's 5 years old. Really outdated and it's falling apart. Time to invest in a new one.
My dilemma is whether to stick with the non-flip or go with a flip.
I'm thinking of going with the Motorola KRZR K1 GSM Phone.
Does anyone have any info to share?

I have a Nokia 5120 bar phone that I bought from Bellsouth Mobility in August of 1999. Like the Energizer Bunny, she's still going. The antenna broke off a year ago and I taped it back and done.

I got another phone 2 years ago this April from Cingular (now the new AT&T..I feel like I am at work and have to say this [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif[/img]) and it is a Motorola V551 flip phone. The right side is cracking and anyday now, I feel it's going to fall apart. I keep my Bluetooth going and try to keep it flipped open.

When I do replace my phones, I am thinking of upgrading to bar phones simply because they are more durable. I just can't find a bar phone I like. I like the Nokia 6102i and the Motorola 3XXX. Now the Pearl comes in Red and we have a gold phone so I can't decide. The Samsung Blackjack is good too. Too many choices.

Oh, the Mot KRZR is a big seller. You might be doing good to go with that one. What service do you have?

Well there are a number of options depending on what you want, and what cell provider you have. Different cell companies sell different cell phones so first off what provider do you have? (for example currently the only provider that has the iPhone is cingular former AT&T). Next up would be what do you want to use the phone for? You big on music, texting, email, web surfing, video, or do you just need a phone? No sense in spending $500.00 on a phone if all you are going to use it for is calling family/friends, unless you're rich [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif[/img] Which brings me to the third item, how much you willing to spend on the phone, memory cards, etc. ?

Once you narrow it down you can start to get suggestions but at this point there really isnt anything I can tell ya without more information.

I'm not fond of flip phones...more likely to break, it seems, and if you don't get the right one it takes two hands to open it, yuk.

MG2S, I have to agree that there are way too many choices. My cousin swears by Motorola phones so I'm going to go with the KRZR. I went to the mall on the weekend and checked out many models and I like the way the KRZR feels to the ear.

I only use my phone for calling and that's it. I don't care for all the bells and whistles. The cell provider has a nice deal for the KRZR if I take a 3 year contract with them so I'm going that route.

ohliz, the one I have now is not a flip and I agree that it is easier to answer then a flip but the flip ones are so much more comfortable when talking so I'm gonna give it a try. I checked them out this past weekend and after going through many of them, the one I decided on looked sturdier.

I know! I am so behind in technology. My sister changes her phone every year, she is into all the features and text messages like a mad woman. I don't even know how to text message from my phone. My current phone is not big but my son does call it old school. Next week I'll be just like all the cool people out there with my new RED KRZR. woo hoo!

Oh - Jah Mamma - I love this thread . . . I’ve been having some of the same thoughts - my phone is 4 years old, heavy, clunky and outdated. AND has not been keeping its charge like it used to. Which is really irritating when I’m ready for some full out blabbing!! [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif[/img]

Here’s mine - I have AT&T service and do not require any frills on the phone - just want to be able to talk and do a tiny bit of texting! Any recommendations for me?

Nice fancy phone ya got there, you can still do a lot more than you think:

That should hold you over for a few years at least. You can even hack it if that's your thing (muhhahaha). I've hacked my moto E815 just to see if I could do it. You'd be amazed at how many features they pack into phones only to have them disabled by the cell companies.

Wanda take a look at the Motorola L2 line. It doesnt have all the features that other phones have but for a simple phone I think it fits your needs. Motorola L2 Review
