Land line - keep it?

I have Fios. Cable TV (basic), land line, 1 iPhone, and one basic cell phone for college son. All with one company. The monthly cost of these is $450. That is too much. What can I get reduce these costs?

Parameters:

I don't really use my land line but I need to keep that number - have had it for 25 years.

I don't need super fast Internet

I hardly watch TV and have Blu Ray that I can stream from Internet.

How can I reduce this bill?

what's the monthly bill for the landline? if you drop the landline will it reduce the bill significantly?

cell phone basic rate can be high, unless you are with one of those pay as you go service.

if you hardly watch tv and can do with basic network tv, then I'd suggest nixing the cable tv. if you can seriously do without the landline and it is not needed for home networking, then i suggest nixing it too.

Do you have a large cell phone plan

because the FiOS bundle with 2 set top boxes and basic cable should not be anyway near $200

OK I called ATT and they said you can port your landline to your existing cell phone. Porting rules are standard between companies so it should be the same with VZ

Now will VZ allow you to change your existing bundle with them to TV and internet? They try to lock everyone in with a contract.. You may have to check with them.

From the different bundles I have had with different companies, I've found that they're all just a ploy to rob yuh.

I'd rather pay a separate bill for everything... I thought I had it tough when we were paying $200+/mth, but $450 ma????? whoaa!!!!

How much of your bill is for the land line? It's usually the cheapest part. I would definitely keep the phone number, but you could move it to a cheaper carrier (land or cell).

What is the highest part of the bill? For me, it is cable. For you, it sounds like it may be the two cell phones. You could move them to a flat rate carrier or one with a cheaper family plan.

I don't know how Verizon works but I have AT&amp;T Uverse for cable, internet, and land line and recently switched from Sprint to AT&amp;T for cellular. I have a contract on the cell so I chose not to bundle it with the rest. I know I'm getting taken with the bundle and am going to bust it up but haven't decided what goes where yet. They won't allow me to have the landline alone with Uverse, and I would only save around a whopping $5 if I remove it from my bundle.

Does Verizon make it anywhere nearly as difficult as AT&amp;T to dissect your bill?

Here's what I did.

Called Verizon. Told them I don't need no stinking cable. They said really? How about we give you Internet phone service and x2 FIOS speed for half of what you pay now? Plus we give you discount if you agree to contract for 2 years? Plus we give you $20 per month off that for six months? My next bill will be 40% of what I currently pay. Yes, that is 60% less than what I have been paying. Plus I get 300 minutes for International calls for $10 per month.
