Competition Bureau sues Canada's 3 wireless giants

OTTAWA - The Competition Bureau is suing Canada's three biggest wireless carriers and an industry association.

It's seeking a total of $31 million in customer refunds and administrative penalties for allegedly misleading advertising.

The bureau says it's taking legal action after a five-month investigation into the companies' advertising of premium texting services.

Its allegations have yet to be tested by a court or tribunal.

The federal agency is seeking $10 million each from Bell (TSX:BCE), Telus (TSX:T) and Rogers (TSX:RCI.B) — the country's three-largest wireless carriers.

It's also seeking $1 million from the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association, the industry's main lobby group.

that's good, hope it goes through, but that likkle bit a money isn't enough like how dem tree deh have ripped the public off more den bush an obama combined

When you see how deep Digicel, Lime etc... have cut their rates in Jamaica, it's hard to see why we here in Canada need to pay so much. The three big cell companies up here could easily cut their rates by 50% and still make a handsome profit.

I would leave Rogers in a minute and sign on with one of the smaller, less expensive providers but mi need cell service up at the cottage and the smaller companies can't offer that YET!
