Burning DVD's

I have come to ask yet another person, can all movies be burned? ( cause I've been teased that I don't know how to burn DVD's)

I was trying to burn a Nigerian movie, the process will load itself, then it will ask for me to put in a blank DVD. I used DVD + R, the guy said that it's probably not the blank DVD by the format in which the movie was recorded, I may need a special software. ( Forget it, it's just cheaper to buy another movie)

I just bought a DVD movie named Stomp The Yard and was trying to burn it. Doing the same thing, so I called the guy and he said maybe I needed DVD - R. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70456-eyebrows.gif[/img] I bought that and it still spitting it out saying I need to put in a blank DVD. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif[/img]

I burned something for my friend so I tried to burn it again and it did burn with no problem. Now the guy did say that some movies have a special something that you can't copy a movie.

My PC is new and plays dvd's, Cd's just won't copy certain movies. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70402-thinking.gif[/img]

Don't know too much about it, but DVD are usually copy protected by regions and the first time you use you DVDPlayer if ask for your region.... at least that my experience I think last year when I watched one on the computer.

diggs.com was recently in the news because the tried to censor posts about cracking HD-DVD, maybe if you don't get help here you might try there!

The guy is fooling you. You will not be able to copy a commercially bought DVd unless you do it with a special software or special equipment.
you can watch it on the computer,but you won't be able to copy it with th eexisting software on the 'puter.
Google DIVX or GODVD and check them out.

tuff, dat would come out kina fuzzy, and probably have everything flipped 180 degrees out of phase.

Whew....thanks for your help I did go out an rent a <span style="color: #000099">Blue</span>..... Packaged DVD just to try it out. Yu save mi a great deal of embarrassment.

Im very far from a pro but I had the IT guy at my job install NERO on my computer for CD/DVD burning and I must say I like the program

You know what I have a couple of Nero and PowerDVD that I got with my DVDROM, I never installed them as I don't really burn stuff and the only time I needed to save anything to disc, I used DeepBurner Free version in the past and now WinXP.

I can tell you this much, no technique or software will work 100% on all movies, there are various encryption schemes that the manufacturers can use. Some of them are better thsn others, however, not foolproof. The owners pay a lot of money and go to alot of trouble to secure their ownership of the DVD movie.

Thanks so much guys, I burned 2 Jamaican DVD's but as far as any of the Nigerian or American movies it's just not letting me copy them. have a cople of funny Nigerian movies and friends are begging for me to copy them. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif[/img] The movies aren't expensive so will try and order them if they want them. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif[/img]

Sounds like some bootleg mess, I can just imagine what will be recorded on the copy cell phone ringing, kids outside playing, ice cream man ringing his bell, coughing, dropping something. My burner works fine, that's not the problem I wanted to burn specific movies and it's just not letting me do it. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif[/img]

Boops I have something to report.
Today I was looking up my favourite DAP, the NSDV4G



Actually I was trying to buy one as a gift. The one I saw had a full version of King Kong on it (or so it claimed in the description). So I wondered to myself how a full version of any movie would really look on the NSDVG.

Anyway I had a copy of The Beverly Hillbillies lying around, I knew that the video format was incompatible with the format used on the player so I decided to see what extensions was used for DVD Movies.

The extension is .vob, which is really a just container name for MPG-MPEG and in most cases will convert simply by renaming the files.
In my case converting one of the episodes to a playable MPG was simply a matter of renaming the .vob extension to .mpg ---done

The next step was to convert it to .avi or .wmv which is the format used on the NSDV4G.
Luckily the player ships with a free copy of Media Converter2.
So I have converted my first .vob/. mpg video file to .avi and loaded it on to the player.

Now I know you are wondering what the heck this all have to do with your situation...well in my research I found some information which basically says what Doc and JKid has been saying but spells it out so you can see the difficulty in converting some Videos. This is date 2004 and speaks to specific conversion software, but I think it is still relevant.

2. DVD-5's are simple to backup and in fact can be done quite simply.

3. DVD-9's are much harder to backup and I will try to explain why:

Let's suppose that a DVD-9 is composed of 10 title sets. Some are less, but many are more, but for this example, we'll use 10.

The actual movie is only contained in 5 of these title sets, with the other 5 being menus, trailers and special features.

Let's say the IFO file instructs the DVD Player to begin playing at title set 1. This is the FBI disclaimer. Now, the IFO instructs the player to play the second title set (2) which is another disclaimer. When that's finished, the IFO instructs the DVD Player to play the third title set (3). This third title set is a trailer of some upcoming release. At the end of this third title set, the IFO file instructs the DVD Player to play the fifth (5) title set. (No, I didn't skip over # 4) This is the menu title set. Now when the user presses the play button in the menu, the IFO file instructs the DVD Player to play the fourth (4) title set which is a THX trailer. At the end of the THX trailer, the IFO file instructs the player to play the sixth (6) title set which is the beginning of the main movie.

Did you follow that? 1-&gt;2-&gt;3-&gt;5-&gt;4-&gt;6 (the IFO file instructs the PGC or program chain in a series of events, which by the way in many cases can be interrupted by the user, like when you press the menu button on your remote)

A DVD-9 is actually two pressed (not burned) layers of media with a physical break in between them. You can't see the layer break, but it is there. Each layer can hold approx 4.7 billion bytes of data.

Your DVD Player sees these individual layers and can access them instantaneously. So when it needs to jump between title sets it can do so very easily.

This is a simplistic example but nonetheless, can be quite revealing, once you understand it.
