Another serious question

Can't remember if I asked this before...old age, according the Tuff Gong. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img]

I have a song on the homepage of my website. How can I have it playing on all the pages? I don't want to embed the music file on all the pages because (I think) it would restart on each page...right???

Is that possible? [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/helpsmilie.gif[/img]

Now this is off the top of my head and I am not really sure what you mean.

Typically if you get to a site that plays music, the user allows the music to play, the actual is done over user device on his/her computer, therefore the device continues to play the music to the end or some user input.

I would imagine the merely leaving the page would not halt the player, unless the designer programs a trigger that halts the music if the web page loses focus/priority.

Let's try to ask some other questions:

or you imagining a scenario where a user might enter the site other than the home page

or do you want the music to run as a theme throughout the site, irrespective of where the user enters the site?

Users will enter the site via the home page...unless someone bookmark another page and I don't see that happening. In addition to the homepage, I have five other pages. What I want is to have the song continuously playing no matter which page the user selects. Hmmmmm...I have the same header on all the pages. Now I'm wondering if there's a way to embed the song file in the header file. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70402-thinking.gif[/img]

BTW, with age comes wisdom and since I need some, I don't mind aging. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img]

I assume your Header placement is controlled by a Style Sheet, if so you can attach the arguments to call up the music as you say in the Header using the Style Sheet.

Of course you may want to continue the music as they move from page to page and not just replay it each time a user hits another page on your site.

I think Flash or a Script that tracks how far the music file, heard by that particular user had progressed, then continues the unused portion of the music file as the user reaches another page on your site.

I will look into it and see how it can be achieved.

I went into the file manager, hyper-ventilated and closed it. I was thinking I would go in and literally see a file named "header".

If you're using frames on the homepage, it shouldn't be too difficult. The music file can be embedded on the portion that is static.

Codes then uploaded. I didn't do the initial site btw. A designer created it however I'm able to add, delete, change, stuff like that. I added the music file to the homepage, nearly fainted when it worked because I had no clue what I was doing. Also added an additional page and I was [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bannana_purple.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bannana_purple.gif[/img] when that worked too. I honestly need to take a course.

Okay one more question does the music start playing as the users enters the site or do they click on the link to start the music?

Assuming there is a clickable link, you can just add the link on the other pages, in the same manner as you do on the Home Page and they music would be available to user.

Okay...you are going to need a script that will track the ID of the user as well as how much of the file has played from the first instance.

A Session Cookie Script would accomplish that.
I don't know how much access you have to nuts and blots of the host but having the ability to upload your custom pages might be all you need.

I will look into such a script.

What Are Frames?

My thinking is that with a framed website, similar to the one in the image of the linked page, you should be able to embed the music file in the left frame (menu_bar.htm) as that is static. When someone selects a menu option, the page is changed in the main.htm. I can't see how you can accomplish what you're trying to do without using frames.

I have no clue if it's possible. I keep thinking if I can have the header repeating on all the pages, there must be a way to embed the file in the header file or have it as another header or footer for that matter.

I just get scared everytime I go into the file manager. I don't want to mess things up.
