yes, yes, i know. every know technology get promoted for replacing another, but AJAX takes the cake.

Ajax is bound to change software application technology although it has always been a server/client thing. For one apps will be lighter than ever. Wa yu say?

As a web geek I'm not too keen on it due to it requiring java script but to each his/her own.

Looks kinda insecure from my likkle reading of it.
We do so many things with scripts now I don't think that there will be forever opposition to the use of scripts in this manner.

That sounds oldfashion, I put that aside since javascript is widely accepted these days.

Faster access maybe, but generally the outcome is not as linear as the intent.

Well, what if I don't have java installed? I cant even see your site properly which means right off the bat you are limiting how many users can view your website. Now lets say your site has a store, you may lose a percentage of users that may have bought from you simply because your site wanted to install java. Most users are dummy's and have no idea what that 'install java' popup thingy is and so they click no and buy from somebody else that doesn't require flash/java/whatever.

Another problem with java - its a vector for attack, and it's used to load ads on some sites (ads, I hate them!). Do a search on google if you don't believe me. You may allow java or flash to be installed on your network/computers but I don't. Scripts and script engines are everywhere but imho they should be server side, and not client side.

Yeah I'm old school, I'll be the first to admit it....but all my sites will load on just about any pc connected to the internet, can you say the same?

care to give an example? in my opinion it hasnt caught on as yet. not only that it is also being used in appropriately and the xml structure is not being exploited to the max, making it more linear where it should be not.

Javascript not Java. It is not about seeing a website but using a web application. Use is the key here and not just getting some website to be SEEN. The days when people just look at or browse websites are long gone.

the users of applications have fore knowledge especially those which can be now brought online thanks to AJAX. these are aware that they need which ever technology required as they NEED the apps.

No. I will never say the same. Web applications are a necessity, software works on the client/server principle and that is from day one the aim of the technologists to bring applications to the masses. Even that shop you mention uses apps and requires that the user must enable cookies at least.
Ajax enables app providers to offer better software online, better dynamics, better feedback and useability.

this requires a one to many principle and not the other way around.

Thare a lots of Javascripts codes that only work on Explorer. At least when I use to contribute to the open source at http://www.Javascripts.com. I think they have changed the URL now to earthweb or somthing or the other.

of course but let us approach this thing differently.
even if a piece of code requires IE and it is needed by an audience it will be used. take something as simple as an html editor for webdesigners. will they not use it because it requires some filters from IE?

beyond visibility, I dont see where compatibility interferes with the advantages of AJAX for web apps.
