I got it on a brand new computer and I swear the computer is so slow. It's so annoying that little circle you see when it's shutting down [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70400-talktohand.gif[/img] or at start up [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70400-talktohand.gif[/img]

yep, bought a new cpu in april/may. i looked hard and long to find something with XP on it. no such luck. so, i got vista. i HATE vista. jeez, let me think ... the "start" button is now the microFast icon. do not try to deal with the office suite .... lord, just trying to find a print button has sent me round the bend.

my PC was purchased in april..so like I said I don't know what the deal is with this piece of cr ap...shut down and start up should not take that long. what this computer is going to do is to force me to go start reading up on computer manuals because is eeda dem gwine come tek it outa mi house and gie mi XP or mi gwine uninstall the fawt weh come pan it...but even with all the factory loaded ware..it should not be this slow.

VISTA STINKS!!!

Is not yuh imagination, it is actually bulkier and slower than Win-XP. Mi played wid it for a while, an mi com tuh di conclusion dat dem can keep it. Maybi SP2 release will bi better, but for now dem caa gwey! Mi sey what ah big waste ah good memory!

Vista mek XP look like speedy Gonzales.

Basic Vista need 512megs of ram just to get by,while Home edition needs 1 gig minimum. So if it is not set of quick boot it will take more than a l;ittle time if the memory is within those parameters.

Jeez man, it's not that bad. As the 'Bredda say, minimum 1GB of RAM is just about manadatory, and I would add, turn off some of the auto-start stuff that really isn't necessary. Then again, the first thing I did when I bought my laptop was to reformat the drive and do a custom install. Works like a charm.

LOTS of PCs are still sold with 512MB RAM. The markup on the PC itself is small, so stores make their monies on the 'parts'. A PC with 512MB RAM trying to run any OS other than Linux or Windows ME will crawl. It's even slower if the processor is a Celeron or low-end AMD.

Except fi laptops, mi build mi own desktops PC's. Di fus ting mi duh wen mi get ah new laptop is strip out all di unnecessary junk whe noh essential, an mi shut dung all hidden nonessential startup's whe di average user caa find. Den mi image di drive.

Inna dis yah Vista situation, it barely mek ah difference. Di OS is plain an simple inefficient.

Gi yuh an example, mi tweak XP pan ah 450Mhz Pentium III, with 512MB of RAM, an mi ah tell yuh sey, dat deh PC run faster dan di new Vista machine whe smaddi bought wid 1.6 GHz processor in deh, even after mi strip dung di startups pan di machine fi dem.


Except fi #5 and #7 inna di tweaks, mi did already check fi di odda tings listed. Mi noh agree wid turning off "restore" though dat can bi risky fi di average user.

You probably don't know anybody that buy's Vista Basic either.
Because all th ePCs that sell with Vista basic comes with only 512 megs of ram.
You ask why is Ram necessary, Well th eram is where the PC organize the data it is using. the larger the ram capacity the bigger the cache of data it can organize. Ram is like the size bucket you carry to the well.
Buying a PC with Vista Home edition and 1 gig of ram is as slw as buting a Vista Basic edition PC with 512 megs.
If you have Home edition, or higher anything less than 2 gigs still won't compare with XP at 512 megs. as far as speed is concern.
