Dell quality

Is it just me or have anyone else noticed a constant degradation in Dell quality over the years?
I have always recommended Dell laptops, PCs, etc but I am realizing that more and more I am getting complaints of parts and components failing and need replacement.

I want to start a "I hate Dell" campaign.

All except one of my computers in the last 10 yrs have been Dell, and the quality and customer service aint the same.

Bought a new system in March; parts have been replaced 3 TIMES already; and lets not forget the 2 week quarrel I had with customer service who wouldnt let me return an item. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70400-talktohand.gif[/img]

Sent the item back by UPS and did a reverse charge on my credit card and asked them how they like those apples. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif[/img]

I have 2 recently purchased dells and no problems, except one message pan mi laptop (cause mi did do one half arse install) and it look like the computer confuse [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif[/img]

the other desktop is fine too. the cd drive was making a lot of noise but that only happened with one stupid CD i had [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70402-thinking.gif[/img]

the real test will come when I replace this laptop in 4 years.

I was testing all types of laptops when I was trying to shop for one. One sales guy had suggested a Dell, as soon as I started typing on it one key flew off of it and bounced onto the floor. People around us started laughing, as well as myself [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/704555_dwl.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/704555_dwl.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/704555_dwl.gif[/img] He stood there trying to explain it was a demo model, I just told him not to even waste his breath.

My boss has one for work and she's always complaining about something going wrong with it. Her personal computer is an Apple maybe she's just used to hers.

my work issued "top of the line" IBM keys came off too . I just snapped them back on.

I did a network, server and workstation installation for a small customer and thought since everything is brand new (Dell) equipment, I shouldn't get any support calls coming in.
WRONG! The amount of calls I get from all the various equipment on the desktops failing is ridiculous. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad2.gif[/img]
This was a job I did on the side after work and it is just eating up my time. Dell keeps replacing parts and pieces but as soon as they do another workstation part fails somewhere else. It ranges from wireless cards to hard drive failures.
There was a time I would tell people, just buy the Dell don't worry about the deal that Compaq is offering, buy Dell. Looks like I may have to start recommending IBM.

I have a DELL.. And was about to replace it.. no other reason is that it is 4 years old.... I have a phillips laptop I bought last year for my travels and it is a bit battered.. And was thinking of ordering another two dell laptops.. These comments has me concerned...

I'd think twice Wahalla. The service guy who came out to fix my computer the last two times, says that he no longer recommends Dell anymore. Not that he is the last authority on the matter, but that is a common refrain that I have been hearing and didnt believe it until I had to experience it.

I have to replace my Dell laptop as well by the end of the year, I have been looking at other brands when once upon a time, I never would have thought to do so.

Plus, the forced me to but Windows Vista when I wanted to stick to XP b/c I didnt want to worry about compatibility. Aall of my accounting software needed patches or were incompatible with Vista. Imagine my stress in the middle of April tax season dealing with programs that dont function properly and crashed constantly......

I also told you that I was typing on my boss's Apple computer and the nuber 1 fell off too, and I was trying to put it back.
