Couldn't find a previous topic on this so please forgive me if one already exists.

Over the weekend I set up a network with my desktop and my laptop.

The laptop was able to view files from the desktop and print to the printer but the desktop couldn't pull anything from the laptop - i was ok with that since i was just setting up.

Both computers were able to access the interenet (through my secure linksys router)

Anyway, the laptop worked for the weekend and then stopped working. Don't know what happened, it just stopped. Both computers are in the same workgroup. I did a reset on the router etc but somehow, the laptop is not picking up neither the desktop nor the router. The desktop is able to connect to the internet fine and the lapotp can connect to the internet but not going through my network.

Any ideas? PC = XP Home. Laptop = Vista Home Premimum

did you enable the folders/directories you wanted to share?

yes. please remember the network was up and working (at least one way) over the weekend...the laptop was showing the router and the desktop in the "network places"...now it isn't showing either of the 2...

Is the IP address on the laptop a "private" one, e.g. 192.168.x.x? Also, the router should be set to dynamically assign IP addresses on the home network. I would check that setting as well.

In addition to granting individual folders and directories permission, I assume that you also have the GENERAL files a printer shearing turned on for BOTH computers? Also checked to make sure your you don't have multiple gateway filters turned on (XP, Vista, router, Zonealarm, etc)? You can confuse the network. You may want to try using only the router gateway filter alone, and turning off all other software filters.
