Note that this also applies to iPads and Digital SLR Cameras that have the GPS built in. You can look at your old pictures by right clicking on them and going to properties. Some of the info you can find is is the type of camera, fstop, date/time the pic was taken, etc. Google maps/image search has many pictures taken with the feature turned on, so it does have some use.

The issue described isn't really new, but as the smartphone market grows, keeping up with the technology gets harder.
