Re: Enlighten me
if you have a newer laptop, chances are it's already wireless capable....so you wouldn't need the card you speak of.
what you need to get is a wireless router...they're pretty easy to install...once installed, there's a good chance your laptop will find the connection when you turn it on.
sorry, i can't remember how much the router cost...just know it's not much.

Re: Enlighten me
Depends on what type of wireless you talking about.
There are two main types which are Cellular wireless or the wireless using a router. With the cellular wireless, you can get internet access anywhere there is cell service. That does use a card that you plug in. Some use the USB port. $69/month unlimited. It sweet since the company paying for it. Anywhere the laptop go, I have access. The speed is fine for most internet browsing like reading the forums. But downloading is like 256k DSL lite. I've heard the 3g network is faster, but what I have is fine for now.
Then you have the router mentioned above. With that, you'll need service from an Internet Service provider, like Bellsouth. With this system, there are three types right now. Wireless-B, Wireless-G (most common) Wireless-N. (Not yet a true standard.) These cards are built into most laptops now, but you can still buy the card for the older laptops. You have to be within range of the router for it to work. If you drive around, there are many unsecured networks you can connect to because the people don't know any better. If you go to Starbucks, they have a router and that is how you can connect to the network there.
