Mi juss want to do a likle web browsing and check up pon di email an ting an ting. Nutten more dan dat.

Mi see a Pentium chree in the paypa deh fi sale fa $50.

I was tinkin of looking at it an if it look criss den mi would tek it.

MHO, no bodda. Let me explain why. The life cycle of a pc now a days is between 3-5 years and that's if you get a good pc. The price of the laptops are below $500 on sale and some of them are not celeron processors. There is a noticeable difference in speed between the celeron and regular processors. Since you using it for email, you most likely watching videos and stuff that people send you. Yeah, the old pc can do it, but many times you'll get stop action or jerky video. The internet is now using flash videos in a lot of advertising. Even the videos you see are sometimes flash and that will slow down you web browsing too.

Then you have the operating system. If it pc is not at least Windows XP, walk. It don't even mek sense fi try and update it because you don't know if that going to work and most likely the amount of memory is not enough and it will run really slow. My advice...Tek dat $50 and put it towards saving up for a new $500-$600 laptop, which will have much more memory for the hard drive, RAM, Video and the speed would probably be twice that of the old pc what you getting. Dat way you wont be like me modda: "Why it wont do this? And why it wont do dat?" She buy the $50 pc dem and call me fi fix them and I can't do a ting because the pc simply not capable. The last laptop she buy, we can't hook up via wireless to the router because the wireless card not compatible with the security. Sure I could open up the router security, but since she doing her business stuff, I tell her to hook up the cable instead until she get a proper pc. Now when you stop and add up all the $50 and other money wha she spend so far, she coulda just wait and buy a brand new pc. I tink now she finally starting to understand, especially after the last used router broke dung and she find out she pay more for a used router than a brand new one.

A Pentium 3 will run XP I have one I used as a test bed.
You will need to max out the memory and get good network card.
The trick is to make sure you get a legit copy of Windows XP so you can download the all the fixes and updates on Microsoft Official Site.

If you plan to run all the multimedia stuff then you would want to get a P4. If you don't need to move about avoid a laptop, a desktop is always more upgradeable.
If you had say a Spec ATX Case you could upgrade it to any configuration you like much cheaper than buying a comparable laptop off the shelf.
