Pen and paper, storytelling and acoustic musical instruments for all our business, communication and entertainment needs.

Remember the huge blackout a few years back. It lasted less than 24 hours and everyone was in a panic, like the world was crashing down around us, except the Amish, they never even knew what happened.

I'm at the stage now where all this new "must have" technology is boring me. I'd rather learn to play my own music than to listen to the crap that is on digital radio. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70400-talktohand.gif[/img]

Windows have fax software built in. If you need to scan a document to fax, a usb scanner work well and cost under $100. Cable too much of a pain and I kinda' like the satellite channel interface in comparison the cable. (even the digital cable still not to my liking.) I have not bought an Ipod yet, although I use mp3s. Use both VHS and DVD. Blue ray not yet a standard and may go by the wayside. Waiting that one out. My 20yo TV starting to go and it look like mostly lcd flat screen tv available now. So I might be getting one during the thanksgiving/christmas sales. If I get a good cell plan in the next few months too, the land line might be dropped. Don't use it much. Just remember technology wait for no one. You either adopt it or watch it. Yep, landline. And the modem has to be a modem with the fax capabilities built in. You can usually find out that info from the web. Look under the 'Modems' section in the control panel. It will usually list the name of the modem and you should be able to google the model number and see what it can do. Modems used to be standard, now you have to specify if you want one because the network cards for high speed have taken over. Cost of a fax capable modem is anywhere from $10-$50.

Here is a $15 internal one from Compusa. I know I've seen some for $10, but can't find it right now.

LOL! Well, there is always e-fax for a fee or free depending on what you need. http://www.efax.com

Most of the fax machines in the world still use landline. Some companies are using voice over IP, but don't think fax technology catch up with that yet. If you want to see what voice over IP is like, use the voice chat with Yahoo messenger. Works pretty good.
