Getting files off old floppies

No one asked for the binders in over 10 years so when I moved last time, I ditched them. I have an old Dell with a floppy disk drive and I tried to open the files but I can barely get the laptop to work.

A guy wants to charge me $25 to transfer the files on 4 disks to a USB...seems high. Any other suggestions?

Get a external floppy drive.

What kind of files are they? Does the laptop have USB?

Just boot into the DOS prompt wid the laptop, and use the copy command to transfer them to the hard drive. You could also use Damn Small Linux disk to boot from and transfer the files.

Yeah the laptop has one USB port. But for some reason it is running very slowly and I can't get anything of the A drive when I plug it in an insert a disk. The only reason I kept that old laptop is I thought if I ever had to open those old discs I could easily do it. Man was I wrong.

It kept freezing and I keep getting a blue screen saying the system is busy.




Fortunately, I had the documents on my old desktop and I searched through some old USB drives and found a back-up.

Thanks anyway. Problem solved, sample emailed to prospective client...yes the same one to which I wore the wash and wear hair.

Das why mi wanted yuh fi boot from a DOS disk, it would bypass all dat crap, an it would operate at ah very basic level.

Okay I will look for the disc. At some point I am going to have to get something off that old computer. I threw out a whole heap of things.
