Tweet Share +1 Share For more than ten years, Amazon has offered free shipping on any purchase totaling $25 or more. On Tuesday, the world's largest retailer changed its policy, raising the minimum purchase price for "Super Saver" shipping to $35.
Amazon was quick to point out the policy change does not affect members of its Prime subscription service, who will continue to receive free, two-day shipping on an assortment of over 15 million items. Prime membership also offers streaming access to Amazon's Instant Video library, free Kindle e-book downloads, and discounts on select purchases.
According to Amazon, over the last year, Prime membership has grown to the point where more items are shipped through the free two-day option than Super Saver.
