Format C:

I have an older computer that I want to give away.. it has a windows 2000 OS so I think it best to just clean off the hard drive. The question I have is if I do format C: will it permanently clear off the data on the disk? (i doan want anyone being able to retrieve the former data that was on the machine).

No, it won't unless you do a low level format. Check out this utility here .
