Jason Henzel, Chairman of Treasurer Beach Foundation, disclosed that the Williams sisters, two fo the biggest names in the sport, will be having two coaching clinics with a select 12 member squad from Tennis Jamaica.
The occasion of their presence in Treasure Beach will also be used to advance plance for the further development of the sports park, according to Henzel.
“After the clinic, we are going to be announcing the partners for phase four of the Treasure Beach Sports Park, which has a big price tag of $50m, which we are trying to raise. We have some partners on board already, (and )some to be confirmed."
Boxing too
And, in a unique twinning of sports, a boxing card will be staged at the Treasure Beach Sports Park later that same day, with the Williams sisters in attendance. Boxers from Jamaica and the Cayman Islands will square off at the venue as they seek to enhance their records and prepare for bigger challenges in the future.
"Venus and Serena will again be in the VIP area (during the boxing)... I know that Jamaicans are dying to see them and take photographs. It’s a massive opportunity for us, and we are going to make the most of it”, Henzel said.
Lennox Lewis, former world heavy weight boxing champion, will be the patron of four bout challenge card between Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
Stephen "Bomber" Jones, President of the Jamaica Boxing Board of Control, confirming the card on Tuesday, said this was part of Jamaica's road to the 2016 Olympics programme in Brazil.
“Road to Rio is a very important one and Cayman will be the second leg. We learnt a lot from Canada here a couple months ago and Cayman comes next week to Treasure Beach, where we will have good teams, Cayman and Jamaica, and other Caribbean islands are coming together to make sure that even though the competition is proper, we want to make sure that we are a unit in this region and a force to be reckoned with. So it will be a very exciting night” Jones commented.
However, it is uncertain whether Rio 2016 Olympic hopefuls Jonathan Hanson, Kestna Davis and Michael Gardner will be on show.
