Secure File Transfer Protocol???

I have to install some sort of program on my computer to allow me to access my webpage at my school's server from my computer at home. Mi haffi do this rather quick.

Mi haffi buy a program? Or is sittn mi can find free on the Internet?

i'm doing a search of my hard drive right now. Perchance mi have it somewhere on here and don't know...

Any advice?

the school should provide the software they want to use for secure ftp no?

as far as I know...there is no special software to do FTP...but all my FTP experience is based on sending files to a server...

FTP is usually a way to transfer files. Add in a login prompt to the website and that is how you get the secure part. FTP is built into windows pc and has been there since Win 3.1. Firewalls like Norton or Zone Alarm can block ftp and you have to modify them. If you have any firewalls, temporarily disable them to test. If you have internet explorer (IE) cookies turned off, same thing...temporarily enable to test. There are also some settings in IE security options that can affect ftp, but instead of us guessing, there should a document of some sort from the school or someone you could call for help. IMO, that would be the fastest way to get it working. There are other ftp utilities out there that make the FTP process easier, but you don't *have* to use them. the webpage troubleshooting guide says:

"A SFTP compliant client must be used to gain access to the server. Examples include: WinSCP (Windows), FileZilla (Windows), Fetch (Mac), Cyberduck (Mac), Fugu (Mac).

WinSCP is installed on managed PCs within [name of school], and FEtch is installed on managed Macs. This server is also accessible from outside of [name of school] on your own computer. Just install a compliant SFTP client on your system and used the settings below."

Client=software. Example IE. There are other 'ftp' programs out there but generally you don't need to use them.

Bring up IE options-&gt;Advanced-&gt;check "Enable folder view for FTP sites." If this works, when you connect to the site, it should look like one of your windows folders. Some websites do not allow this option. Close all the IE windows and then open a new IE window.

Now to connect to the site. Type in the URL in the address bar, but specify something like...

ftp://replacewithyourwebsitename.com

Notice instead of www or http, you using ftp. That should be all you need to do. If it is a secure site, it will pop up a box and ask for the username and password. Type that in and it should display the folders.

Cool, no problem. It probably has to do with the way the admin set up the server why IE wont work.
