Digital Camera and Batteries ...Question

OK so I'm way behind the times. I finally purchased a digital camera and I am totally happy with it.

The only thing I notice is that it eats the regular alkaline batteries like they are going out of style. I hear people talk about spending more money for lithium batteries which are suppose to last longer and I also hear about the rechargeable battery kits. I also know they have heavy duty alkaline batteries.

For someone like myself who might take a couple trips a year and maybe use my camera at weddings, the odd day trip and birthdays etc..., what is the best route to take in regards to using batteries?

i find lithium works best. i had rechargeables, but after a while they don't hold the charge for long.

I have to say that I have been using rechargeable batteries for years and years. I always buy energizer batteries.

They are better for the environment for one. But I have never had a problem with them at all. Actually, just the other day my friend who I sold my camera to back in 2004 told me she was still using the batteries that I gave her with the camera. I used them for about a year.

me, I rotate my re-chargeables every couple of years i buy a new set. I mark the ones I already have and then I don't mix them up.

The rechargeable batteries should be disposed of at a waste facility and not in the regular trash.

A kit of 4 batteries and one charger is about 15.00 to 20.00 US. You do the math!

Go with the Lithium-Ion type.

Thanks to all for your help. I did manage to get to the camera store this morning and the guy there tells me that for casual users like myself, the lithium ion is the way to go. However, for people who are more avid photographers, as I believe Nanook to be, then the rechargeables are the way to go.
