Chaninging the Heat Sink... Wisdom or Low Self Confidence

My processor fan is still making some grinding noises even after I lubricated it with some 3 in 1 oil.

So I went to the local computer store to get a new one and he guy says they don't sell the fans separately, I will have to by a new heat sink. So said, so done.

I have read the instructions over and over and it does not seem very hard but after an inspection, it just seemed like it was going to end up with me screwing it up somehow. I get nervous when I get to close to my motherboard with any kind of tool in hand!!!

I have decided that I will just bite the bullet and take it to be serviced by a pro.

Not sure if I am becoming wise in my old age and accepting my limitations or am just becoming less confident in myself. All I know is I can shell out $40 for service but I can't afford a new computer at this time.

As long as you don't put a hammer to it,it usually go on tivking even after all thet licking. The heat seik is also reasonably easy to replace.Unless you are dealing with a special board that have thermal ctrnsfer glue.
Usuially it is held in place bt clips,amd in most cases,these clips has levers that you lift to release.
The mosy inportant think to do is not to be afraif to really push hard when resetting those clips. since physical contact with the processor is essential tpo tracsfer the heat to the sink. Give it a go,you are more likely to damage the clips than the motherboard, or processor. Just examine th eclips that gasten th eorigoibal sink. then undo it and redu it a few times,before you replace. That is to get practice. Make motes if you need to,but don't let it beat up on you.
