New baggage requirement at Air Jamaica

The National carrier Air Jamaica has issued a new baggage advisory in anticipation of the increased traffic during the upcoming holiday season.

In a release issued Friday, the airline stated that all passengers will be allowed one piece of carry-on baggage with a maximum weight of 30-pounds and maximum size of 45 inches.

Passengers travelling from Toronto will be allowed one 22-pound carry-on while those travelling from Canada will be allowed one 13-pound carry-on.

The airline says love bird economy class passengers will be permitted two free checked bags of not more than 62 inches and 50-pounds each.

Executive Class travellers will be allowed three free checked pieces of the same size and weight, except for the London route where passengers will be allowed three checked pieces of not more than 70-pounds each.

Passengers will still be allowed to check overweight bags of not more than 70-pounds at a cost.

The airline says the overweight charge will be applied to each piece of luggage and will be accepted subject to the availability of space. However, the airline says no excess bags will be accepted at check in from December 1 to 31 from Canada and from the US to Jamaica from December 19 to 26.

Passengers will be allowed to check -in up to three extra pieces at specified charges.

Those passengers wishing to carry more than three pieces of excess baggage and bags over 70-pounds are advised to use the airline's cargo service.

they need to somehow broadcast this to their customers

i have literally seen people unpacking and repacking in the airport line

last year some guy wanted to pay someone to take his bag down for him - he had too much stuff

i guess i won't be coming back with any "blue elephants" this trip

By Canada they mean London.
The 13 pound restriction was on the London flight because the A343 couldn't lift off from Manley wid da house an sink.

Now someone at AirJ tried to update their website but dem mussi skip school on purpose.

My last trip was the first time my luggage was weighed LEAVING Jamaica and they charged me for it being too heavy.

This I think will discourage you from taking things home you buy there, I really don't think this is going to help the economy.

Speaking of which... mi read inna di paypa today that Supreme Court of Canada pass a ruling that mandates that the airlines must sell two seats for the price of one to fat people. This applies to domestic flights only.

Watch Canada domestic airfares go up now. Cause somebody's gonna pay for the extra seat. And it's going to be the skinny people.

Well mi nah need 2 seats yet...

I just checked with American about the luggage restrictions for my January flight. Two 50 pound checked bags and a 40 pound carry on! I can't imagine hauling around a 40 pound carry on!!

May make a difference coming back... how much does rum weigh???

My record for Carry-on is 50lbs!

That was to avoid checking a bag so everything had to go inside the hand luggage.

If you get the rum in plastic bokkle there's significant weight benefit. The only problem is that the plastic bokkle rum is not always in stock. But it's worth looking around for it so that you can bring maximum amount back. It's also better cause you don't have to worry about glass breaking.

They are both 1.75 litres, but the plastic weighs about a 1/3 of the glass.
