Directions to Accompong?

My wife and I have been going to Jamaica for 30 years off and on, and regularly since 2000. We always rent a car and have been on some pretty hairy roads in the Blue Mountains and elswhere.

We have heard a lot about Accompong and would like to visit there when we are in Jamaica again in February 2009. I have seen a lot of discussion about the place and lots of recommendations. What I have not been able to find is driving directions to get there.

I assume Maggotty is the most likely starting point, but there may also be a route that starts closer to Cambridge(?).

In any case, can someone help us with directions and with recent observations on road conditions?

There's several ways to get to Accompong, either off the road that goes from Maggotty to MoBay, or up through the cane piece up from the Appleton Estate.
Going north from Maggotty, take the 1st right, about 1/3 of a mile north of the round-about, the sign says Trenail, or take the next right, they both go to Accompong. The first turn has some great views of the Nassau Valley (think appleton).
Follow this road till you come to Beth Salem. You'll see the post office at the fork in the road , take this to the left, and Accompong is about a mile from there.
Coming from the north from MoBay, you could take the road marked Cedar Spring, which actually loops back thru accompong and rejoins the Trenail road. The C.S. road is broken bad, I rarely venture on it in my 4wheel drive truck. It is due for repair soon (they use this road during the Maroon celebration) a an exit road-one way up and the other out. That w'ont work now, and I'm sure the push is on to fix it before Jan.6th.
