Transportation around Jamaica......

I'm a newbie and wanted to start by saying Hello to everyone!! I'm hoping you can help me out as I have a few questions.

1. What is the best type of transporation from Montego Bay to Kingston? Which is the best way to travel and affordable such as a bus, taxi?

2. How many hours from Montego Bay to Kingston? I recall Kingston to Ochos Rios was maybe 2 hrs but I could be very wrong as it's been a long time since my last trip and I can't seem to remember.

Hi Spicey, welcome to Jamaicans.com!

1- I can think of a couple of ways to get to Kingston....you could fly (check AirJamaica and Timair), or you could take the Knutsford Express (deluxe motor coach....probably the least expensive option) or you could hire a private driver.

2- I've never done the drive, but I would guess somewhere in the 4-5 hour range.

Or you can take the local bus which will cost you about $600 J, less then $10 USD and that takes about 4 hours same way. That you get in the bus park and it leaves all day and night, soon as the bus (van) is full. I don't know anyone who waits longer then an hour to get going.
The Express bus is about $2,000 J each way.

Not a bad guess tSmallz.

Knutsford Express is a private venture though, that came about as a result of the cancellation of all cross-island air service. First Air Jamaica Express and then Int'l Airlink.

There are a lot of people who commute between Town and MoBay and they all migrated to this bus service. After the new upstart airline finally gets the JCAA approval to operate, this bus service will get some competition and perhaps the prices will drop further.

What needs to be done is the rail system needs to be repaired, revamped, re-thought out, rebuilt, something. This island would greatly benefit with a working rail system. Trust me.

I did the thesis for my degree on this very subject. And proven that it would be a viable business. Still have it saved somewhere. Any investors out there want to lend me some smalls fi run train?
