The Jamaica Tourist Board joined forces with Al Roker Productions and WE tv to showcase Jamaica to the world, through the eyes of the Prime Minister’s wife, Lorna Golding. The one-hour special featuring Jamaica signals the season kick off to WE tv’s Women’s History Month programming and the launch of its new “First Ladies Tour” series. Viewers can join journalist Deborah Roberts on a VIP tour of the island led by Lorna Golding, wife of Jamaica’s Prime Minister Bruce Golding. The show is titled, “First Lady of Jamaica” and will premiere on Tuesday, March 3 at 10 p.m. (EST) on WE tv.
Golding gives Roberts a peek inside her homeland as they take a helicopter ride along Montego Bay coastline and step inside some of Jamaica’s most lavish homes and private resorts including Round Hill, home to world famous designer Ralph Lauren, and Goldeneye, the former home of James Bond creator Ian Fleming. The ladies take in haute couture and street style alike at the Caribbean Fashion Week (CFW) Runway Show. They team up with the adventure thrill seekers at Chukka Caribbean and glide 200 feet above the Montpelier jungle and kayak through the grotto-lined cliffs of Negril. To complete this island excursion, Golding takes Roberts to one of her favorite, and most serene places, the Hope Gardens in Kingston. This 200-acre botanical garden is the largest in the Caribbean and is one of the best places to enjoy the flora of Jamaica.
“The airing of this program is timely as it is a solid reminder to potential travelers of the accessibility and proximity of an ideal warm weather destination in the height of the cold winter months. It is hoped that it will draw attention to the unique experiences and cultural elements of Jamaica beyond sun, sand and sea, as seen through the eyes of Lorna Golding, the wife of the Prime Minister. The program will also showcase the island’s rich diversity and is in keeping with the tagline, ‘Jamaica … Once You Go, You Know,’” said John Lynch, Director of Tourism at the Jamaica Tourist Board. WE tv’s (www.WEtv.com) programming gives viewers perspectives on women’s lives, and is available in more than 72 million homes. For more information, call 800-526-2422 or visit www.visitjamaica.com.
