They don't like knives that can be opened by the hand it is in. They call them automatyic. and classify them with switchblade, butterfly, ratchet andsheathed knife. if you have it o you, I amm shure the immigraytion will take it. Or I am guessing they wil.

there's a hardware store just past the roundabout on the way up the West End Rd, near the library and the all-age school....they might be able to help you, or at least point you in the right direction....
Lots of Jamaican men are carrying a knife on them at any given time. Look at the waistbands on lots of guys under 30 and you'll see a knife clipped. They are most often used as tools but do not be fooled they are also for protection. In 5 years of travel to Jamaica I have been in one knife fight at the bus terminus in Kingston and seen at least 5 others take place all across the island.
Most recent one a man threw a bottle at another man who responded with two swift chops from his machete to the mans shoulder and back as he ran away. He's still in the hospital a week later with some deep gashes I understand. No charges filed. I have had Jamaican youth play with their knives in an attempt to intimidate me or to prove their toughness I suppose and one of them cut his finger while flicking it around. It was SO FUNNY!
Most common are wooden handled folding knives with a curved blade about 5 inches in length. You can buy them at the two hardware stores on West End Road for less then $5 and with a little practice they handle nicely in the hand.
I have also noticed what I call the Hustlers Smile which is a large number of Jamaican men with a long gash on their face or neck which obviously came from a knife attack. Some of them are very pronounced scars with a hook from the ear to the lips and can run the length of a mans face or neckline usually on the left side of the face from a right handed attack.
It's kind of freaky when you think what you have to say or do to someone to illicit such a response. I steer clear of those guys.
