Hello,

I will be going to Negril on 7/25. I would like to know nice places to go to eat, shop and listen to music. I will be there for a week and would also love to go to my birth place of Annotto Bay. Where can I find safe taxi to take me around.

Sala of Talk of The Town Tours is a favorite among many here. If I were to hire a private taxi it would be him.

One of my favorite places to eat is Jah B's on the beach road across the road from Roots Bamboo. I always made a point to have the chicken fingers at Alfred's Ocean Palace once each trip too, just love them! On the cliffs LTU is always good, and has beautiful sunset views for evening dining.

Alfreds is good for music and so is Roots Bamboo. The beach places usually alternate music nights so the music is not happening everywhere at once, especially during the summer months. I think Roots does a sunday evening jazz thing too.

I will be traveling alone and would love to arrange p/u and drop off from Montego Bay to Negril. I have been doing my research and I dont want to stick out like a soar thumb! I wish I knew someone that I can trust there but its all cool I plan to have a great time.

Sala would come for you at the airport and bring you to Negril and then maybe you could get acquainted. Once that happens you might want to use him for other transportation. He and his wife Sienna are very nice people.

Try Cosmo's on the beach. It's nice.
Also for some wickid lobster (and other things) go to 3Dives on the cliffside.

Sala and Sienna are good people. You can roll with them.

Thanks, There is something wrong with the email address but I will call them and let them know. I am so glad that I found this forum because it kinda put me mind at ease knowing that I can connect with some true people. I am going to link up with Sala and his wife Sienna. Negril can be a foodie's paradise...

Some places off the top of my head:

The only place for real jerk- that meaning it is cooked over charcoal with pimento and mahoe, that comes with fire, is at Bourbon Beach.

It has an actual pit. But these days lots of people call jerk also by way of how the meat is seasoned, in which case there are lots of other tasty places as well. For street chicken men check on Step A Side, he made Conde Nast.

I'm a tireless promoter for Miss Sonia, she can cook you up a whole homestyle meal, or a patty that is about a dozen juicy beef worth of patty lol, her recipes are generations old, traditional open fire cooking is what we are talking about here. She has adopted dozens of little kids off the street, so that is why I try and send as many people her way as possible.

Breakfast and such check on Selina or Kuyaba, box food pree the situation at One Mile, Cool Spot, nice for dinner and shakes is Juicy J or Sweet Spice.

Depending on where you are from will dictate which pizza place you favor, I'm from NYMFC so to me there are basically two spots, maybe a third but I never ate there yet. Sunrise/Angela's. Supposedly there is lobster pizza at Tamboo, but that is kind of like a disaster of cheese and lobster on top of a tombstone pie lol. To each their own!

I'd say Sunrise has the best cappucino's on the strip, just to add another notch in their belt.

Seriously though, there are literally tons of places...so speak up my girl and say what you are looking for and the list can grow.

Well, I am not really crazy about jerk. I am looking for someplace in Negril that have rice and peas, escovich fish, ackee and saltfish, fried dumplings, and just pretty much traditional jamaican food that are reasonably price. I have been given alot of choices to choose from and I am going to try and visit as much as I can. Thanks for responding

alright, so definitely you are going to want to tuck into some dishes at Juicy J's, Coletta's, Sweet Spice, box food is the champ at One Mile- that will be your best price, Cool Spot, don't neglect momma Sonia now...

I agree with the choices Monk has suggested and I add to that one of my all time favorite places, Jenny's on the Westend. You can get all that you mentioned as well as curry chicken, brown stew chicken, ox tail and much more.

I get a medium size chicken meal, served with rice and peas, food (yam, banana, potato) and vegetables for $250 J (about $3 USD)and that's a plate full of food. Traditional Jamaican food consistently good. Ask any driver they know how to get you there. Right on the main road.
