i love to travel alone - i find that for me - i get to meet more people - do more things - on and off the beaten trail - and generally have a better time

when i travel alone i do take some precautions:

i stay in a safe location - one summer i rented a house in sheffield for a month on 2 acres - i don't think i slept very well until almost the last nights

i make sure security knows who i am - usually introduce my self and i take their recommendation on what vendors are okay and which are not - they're there every day and see the daily runnings

i make sure someone knows where i'm going (generally) and what time i expect to return

i dress modestly - now i don't dress like a nun - but i don't run the streets wearing my bathing suit and a sarong

i don't flirt unmerciful - one trip to jamaica - i was sitting at the bar at doctor's cave - just talking with the crew that was there - later that day a gentleman showed up at my hotel looking for me - he remembered my conversation at the bar - where i was staying and my name - he turned out to be okay - but the lesson learned - the walls have ears

what things do you do to ensure a safe single holiday?

never been to ja solo...i always go with ppl or link up with ppl once i get there..

if mi go alone for the whole trip i would stay at an AI cause I would just be interested in laying on the beach and drinking the day and night away

I am usually never "alone" ~

nuff yardies watching my movement without my knowledge -

the one time I got fed up with "soon come", I went to the road to catch my own cab to the beach ... YardMate, along with someone out of our yard watched me get in said car and noted the plate number. Both report to Big Man when he finally reach.

Unbeknownst to me, the Driver was one of his cousins (he knew me, I did not know him) carried me to WB, as soon as I walked from the car, he called Mister Big Man to let him know he had carried me.

Because I was "alone" ... no Boardies to link with ... I beached at WB cuz I know they will keep watch pon me. Lilly cuzz out a one Beach Walker for his hand pon my arm when my "NO not interested" did not suit him. "Take you hand off my Sister-In-Law ... "

I get nuff repremand for my chat out inna yard .... ALL daily business / money / locations / food - MUST be discussed inside the house!! I slip up often ...

I hear you, Laurel, about the ....we foreignors are more used to open discussions about our feelings and life's runnings...dat noh werk a Yawd, unfortunately. you know how it can goh, &quot;your best friend can be your worst enemy&quot;....so, I've learned to kibba mi mout most times, unless I'm talking to another foreignor. It is just a fact of life here.....it makes for alot of very superficial chat, but ah soh ie goh

As far as travelling solo....I've always done it and have always felt perfectly comfortable with it, although, after my first visit, I found a little &quot;rootsy&quot; resort on the beach &amp; always went back there on my subsequent trips, so I knew everyone there &amp; vise versa, so I did have peeps who looked out for me. Believe me, I was NEVER a &quot;high roller&quot;, so did not get pestered for too much. I always enjoyed the pure &quot;adventure&quot; of it

I broke one of my golden rules and let it slip where I was staying when I was talking some guy trying to look me in Musgrave Market Especially in small towns you need to watch what info u are giving away that can come back to haunt u.

I just stay in populated areas for the most part if I am on my own and I touch base with someone every couple of days so they know where I am. If they go too long without hearing from me they would know something is wrong b/c it is outside my normal pattern to do so. I watch too many murder mysteries

only other thing is watch how I dress. no flash and stuff.

i absolutely love my alone trips . . . always have the best time, meet the most interesting people, trip around the most.

i keep all my jewellery on just like at home. have had no trouble for 26 years. . . do a lot of local tripping around away from tourist spots and people are super!! have had flat tires while totally alone out in the boonies with no problem. tire fixed lickedy split!!! i drive alone during the day but not at night. am never, never afraid.

I'm traveling alone a lot to the cities I am visiting in the US, but I still prefer to go to Jamaica with someone else along. THis is not a &quot;safety&quot; issue, she's just too good to keep to myself.

My next trip out of town is a loner. As much as I try to revel in the fact that I can move at my own pace, I still would rather be with someone I enjoy traveling with, but I can by no means allow that to stop me or hold my pace up.

i did have two terrifying incidents in the negril area. . . .

have travelled in the same circles since and all is good.

edited to add: hi marilyn, for sure i'd love the right travelling companion . . . they are hard to find and hard to coordinate travel plans with . . .

That's very true....People are working and finances get in the way etc.
