Virgin Atlantic is seeking to justify its new luggage allowance policy, which comes into effect on November 25.
The revised policy will affect passengers travelling to the Caribbean, the USA, among other countries.
Under the policy, Upper Class passengers are allowed three pieces, Premium Economy, two pieces and Economy one piece.
Infants will only be allowed one piece of luggage.
Overweight and additional luggage will attract a cost.
Virgin says the policy will save costs and lower charges for passengers wishing to take additional bags.
It says in the majority of cases, passengers who wish to fly with excess baggage in addition to their free allowances will pay less than they do now.
The airline says it will continue to offer one of the most generous luggage allowances in the industry for passengers wishing to take sporting goods.
Several travel agents in the UK who book for Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean have expressed concern about the changes.
They claim it could have a negative effect on passengers wanting to travel during the current economic climate, particularly during Christmas.
Virgin Atlantic and British Airways have direct flights from Britain to Jamaica and other Caribbean islands.
