Mail to Jamaica

Hello

Can someone tell me where I can find out how to address mail to Jamaica? What would be the best way to send?
I met families in both Port Antonio and Runaway Bay that I would like to send some things to.
I can't really make out how to address it, as the writing is quite bad.

I apologize if this has been covered, I am sure it has. I did a search though... got nothing.

Good morning,
the very best thing to do is check with the person who you are sending the package to, to see what post office they receive their mail at. Some communities that don't have their own post office, has more then one alternative, and you want to know which one they use. Also like in Mo Bay, there is Post Office #1 & PO #2.

Also you may have already thought about this, but people often don't use their proper name, so be sure to address the package to the name they have on their ID, unless it is very rural, in which case ID may not be needed for them to pick it up.

Lastly, take into consideration that duty is due at the time your friend picks it up from the PO. Be sure they have the funds to clear it.

How can I find out about the duty charges ahead of time?
Geez. It's so complicated!
I wanted to send shoes and toys for the little boys, but I didn't want them to have to pay to receive them.
Is there a place online I can find the info?
I have been looking and really didn't find anything.
I was wondering if they would actually ever even get the package once it was sent.
Hmmm.
I would also like to mail myself right back to Jamaica too!

Sorry to say, but to my knowledge it is complicated, in that there is no set rate or a chart to tell you what the person on the other end will get stuck paying. Yes, there is always the possibility that they will not get the package, but then again they might. Lastly, it might make more sense for you to mail yourself back and stick the items in your suitcase, then you know they will get them.
Or ask someone who is going to Jamaica to carry them for you, ppl do that all of the time. Know anyone?

It's just not that simple. Nothing about Jamaica is simple. &quot;DUTY&quot; is a relative term and often is at the whim of the agent leveling the &quot;duty&quot;. I don't want to tell you my postal nightmare in Jamaica. The best and only way to get things into the HANDS of your people, and not someone else's, or cause them any duty heartship is to have someone take it down, or take it down yoursefl. Then even at that. If they go through the nothing to declare line and get caught you have the same problem. It's like smuggling stuff through the Berlin wall for God's sake.

I have had much success sending packages through USPS Express.
It can be tracked on-line (takes 6 business days) and the person has never had to pay a duty.

The boxes are not large tho so you are limited on what you can send.

i have sent things regular mail and dem get it...certain time of year it tek longer.

it mite sound tacky but some times is better/cheaper for you to send the money and dem can buy the shoes and toys. by the time u pay to ship it and they pay duty....it work out more that the worth of the goods.

TELL ME ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I once shipped a box of some Girlfriend tour things that costed maybe 120.00 and ended up spending close to 300.00 dollars and a full day of vacation trying to get it back AND IT WAS MY STUFF.

Thanks to all for the info. I had thought the express mail would be the best to try after some investigation.

I don't know how they would feel about a gift of cash.
Hmmm. I guess I could send it in a card. That wouldn't seem rude - you think? I don't want to offend anyone. I just know it's needed.

Oh, and of course I would send a money order. Think that would make it through?

please dont send money in a card They more than likely will never receive it A money order is marginally safer. At least that can be made out with a specific person's name but this is only useful if I.D. is checked when it is cashed.

If you want to send someone money use one of the money transfer places.. such as Western Union. I think some places even give you a free phone call so you can let the person know money is there

I will just have to go back sooner and take the stuff myself!
BIG sacrifice that it is!

Plus yeah, I think it best to western union and be done with it.
