I have one pretty much identical to the one Stormmey has in her siggie...mostly I don't use them anymore because they might scratch my glass top. But once in a while I do. Hell, I hardly cook anymore. too busy for that!

Nookie!! the ones I have are not aluminum though, they are iron....so damn heavy though am telling you the lid fell on my foot one I though it was broken was hopping around for a little bit.

Me either Nooks, but I've cooked a little this week,. I use these every morning though, because I do insist on a good hot breakfast every day, so I use the skillets a lot.

For 18 years I think my X cooked maybe 10 times tops. He madea mean cabbage beef soup, and some homemade beef soup, and that was about it...I was even cheif BBq'er around here, and that is usually a &quot;guy&quot; thing.

for 5 yrs. the love of my life ... (who I hooked up with after 30yrs-she died 6yrs ago)....told me she didn't cook well so I did the cooking. Then I found out she was lying. Her daughter jus sat back and grinned quietly to herself. Sometimes I'm very naive.

I have a few of my own that I have collected from family that have gone on. I use them every single day. I have my grandmother's little cornbread skillet that she used only for that and only when she was making a small pan of bread. She never used it for anything else and neither do I. I also have a deep &quot;fried chicken&quot; skillet that I use a lot, in fact, G has requested fried chicken legs for tonight so he will have them! I use my cast iron dutch oven to make anything from cobber to chili. I do have a few small non-stick pans, but they rarely come out of the cabinet. I have already told my Mama that I want her oblong &quot;dressing&quot; skillet someday.

It is a lost art, for most younger people. For me, I learned it standing on a chair at the kitchen counter. This is why so many times you will see see pictures of my kids standing in the kitchen making stuff. I want them to KNOW how to do these things, whether they ever decide to cook for themselves or not. .


FYI- your aren't supposed to use soap to clean your cast iron. I use regualr salt and a sponge to scrub mine if they need it, and then after drying just wipe a little crisco on a paper towel over them to prevent rust. And all that stuff on the outside....never mind it. Like you said....it is just a lot of leftover memories! Precious!

Just talked to this girlfriend by phone. She is trying to get the hubby to build her a fire pit out back so she can cook over a real firewith her pots.

My mother gave me one when my oldest daughter was likkle. It had a glass top, which had broken and gone now, I guess its the largest 12&quot; or so.. So for 40 years I have been using this cast iron skillet for frying ckn, fish and such. My youngest daughter that lives with me likes to leave it in water for too long, so I have to watch her when she's decides to cook. I have a small one, that I keep for frying one or two eggs, which was handed down when my aunt passed away.


Oh the memories of this skillet and the stories it could tell

totally agree with the poster than said you shouldn't wash them with soap....even if i have on occasion. I'm sorry, but sometimes...they just need a good scrub. After that, i just re-season them.

and i don't like to cook acidy, tomato based products in them, as the acid really picks up the iron taste in what you're cooking.
