Floridian just found paternal family in Jamaica

Hello to the boards,

I'm so excited to be here. I am a native Floridian and my father is a native Jamaican. He married my mother before I was born and I never had the chance to meet a large number of my father's family members from Jamaica.

I recently decided to search for them on my own, and was amazed at how quickly we made contact. I have already booked a trip for April and am looking forward to immersing myself in the cultutre and learning as much as I can about the other half of my heritage.

Now...I'm worried about how to even get started...lol
I have no idea where to begin.
Can anyone offer any suggestions? I will be primarily in and around Kingston. Anything you can offer to assist me is welcomed.

Hope you have a good time,cant offer any advise on how to get started,once you're there things will take it's natural course, try not to stick to only the obvious tourist spots.

What general area are you located in Florida. There are many Jamaicans located in Florida and perhaps you may get started by trying out some of the food

I'm really not interested in being a tourist. I really want to immerse myself in the culture. That's why I really don't know where to begin. I'll be there almost three weeks. I feel like a need a game plan.

That's a good question. I have absolutely no idea. They had been told we died. I don't have any real answers or explanations at this point.

My father has NOTHING to say.

I mentioned that (about the marriage) because often times, a child's parents get married after the child is born and the child has an opportunity to meet both sides of the family. When my parents married, he was already in the states and he had no immediate family around.
