We'll be there for 12 days and we'll arrive at Mobey but we want to explore all the island of course

itinerary yes but also where to go, where to sleep, where to dance, where to meet good people, ... here in France Jamaica isn't realy describe in guides or other books so we'll learn there i guess?!

Hello Marion, welcome to Discover Jamaica.

In 12 days you can make a nice loop around the island and see quite a lot. Although I would suggest to pick four places to spend 3 days in each, as moving hotels all the time can be tiring.

For best results you should rent a car, that way you can be independent and have your sister be your navigator as you explore the island.

Alternatively, you could use public transport to get around the place, which is still very cheap despite recent government price hike. There are minibusses running between all the major towns in Jamaica, and robot (taxis) to the smaller villages. The only drawback with public transport is that you need to have small luggage.

I would start Eastbound and make a clockwise circle. Places to visit are Ochi with a side trip to Nine Mile where Bob Marley was born, then head to Port Antonio which is a good base for exploring the Blue Mountains. You can make a brief stop in Kingston for the dancing and to see the Bob Marley Museum there, then head to the Western tip of the country, where you can rest and relax to end your vacation in Negril. From there it's an hour drive for your flight back home.

Of course you can chose a different itinerary, depending on what you and your sister like, and how much or how little traveling you wish to do.

Thanks Magix,
I examined in wich way we can do this loop but our flight back home is in Kingston... So we may will have to make a choice but of course Ochi, Port Antonio and Negril will be ones of our stop!If know some little unknown villages to be out of the big town sometimes i would be happy to discover it as weel.
My sis told me has well about the car rental wich seems to be good for more independence. But are the roads secure for two gal used to drive on the right side? lol
And you talk about hotels, but is there some places to stay out of the big tourists complex?
Cannot wait for this tripp,
I continue my investigations to prepare this marvellous trip!

Well in that case you might just as well go to Negril first. Then continue south and east to Treasure Beach. Then cut thru Mandeville, Christiana to the north coast and Ochi. Then east to Port Antonio. Then day before you leave come to Kingston. See the museum, catch a session and fly out the next day.

Have you ever rented a car/driven in a foreign country before?

yes - be sure to collect all your ideas and organize a plan -

after several years of visiting, I have finally begun to drive in Jamaica myself - but only during the daylight.

driving can be very VERY stressful ... aggressive Jamaican Drivers, rough roads and such. take the advice ... keep your night time driving to a minimum ~

be sure to link us up once you have done your trip - we would love to hear about it!! take nuff photoz ~ and show and tell.

i wouldn't want to rent a car my first time in jamaica

i'd rather sit back and look at the window and take pictures

from <span style="font-weight: bold">Kingston</span> - you can visit Portland or the Blue Mountains as well as check out The Bob Marley museum

the Knutsford Express (bus) can get you from Kingston to <span style="font-weight: bold">Ocho Rios</span> where you can do Nine Mile and Dunn's River Falls

from Ocho Rios to <span style="font-weight: bold">Negril</span> is about 2 hours or so and you can get a driver - in Negril 7-mile beach, music on the beach and in West End venues, plenty of day trips - Negril is one of the most popular tourist destinations for beach and sunning

from Negril you can go to <span style="font-weight: bold">Treasure Beach </span>(beautiful black sand beaches) in about 1 1/2 hours for a very laid back taste of Jamaica - from there go to Little Ochie for seafood or check out the Peter Tosh memorial

back to Kingston by private driver or Knutsford Express - there is van service from just outside Negril - but is not as comfortable as the bus service

the bus service is reasonable and comfortable - but doesn't go every where

private driver is comfortable and at your service but is not the cheapest way
