AirTran Airways starts service to JA

A new airline has begun offering services to Air Jamaica's Montego Bay, St. James hub from three United States gateways.

<span style="font-style: italic">The inaugural flight took off around 11am Thursday</span>, <span style="font-weight: bold">a few hours later than the scheduled departure, </span>with 86 passengers on board.

AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings Inc announced on Thursday the launch of its new non-stop services to Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica, from three US cities.

The new services to Montego Bay are from Hartsfield through the Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Orlando International Airport and in Baltimore, Washington via the Thurgood Marshall International Airport.

The carrier is operating daily flights from Atlanta and Baltimore/Washington to Montego Bay and four times weekly flights from Orlando.

Funny, how airlines are capitalizing on Air Jamaica's demise.
Orlando dropped and Baltimore will eventually be dropped because they are deliberately killing the route. AJ reversed the flight times out of BWI.(starting in April) Instead of departing from BWI in the morning, they now leave in the evening. Mobay to Baltimore is in the morning. This will kill the vacation fare.

Guess what time the Air Tran flight leaves out of Baltimore?

Well when you have only 6 aircraft and want to fly to Ft. Lauderdale 4 times daily, JFK 3 times daily and still squeeze in half a dozen other destinations the flights will fly when the plane lands.

Don't worry, that B-more flight will be 12 hours late every day so in effect you'll still have your morning departure.

If the flights are in demand, which is obvious if other airlines are picking up their dropped fights, and they have more routes then aircraft, then why are they having problems making ends meet? It seems as if there is more demand then supply.....there must be major mismanagement with AJ.

Magix, what happened to 'Pilot'? Didn't he work for AJ?
He seemed to have disapeared from the site. I'd like to hear his comments.

And once AirJ dead any bury, those airlines will demand a fee from GOJ to provide airlift.
