Air J to cut flights to Orlando
Friday, 19 February 2010
Air Jamaica says it is ceasing service at Orlando International Airport effective March 9, as it does a major network realignment driven by the departure of three aircraft from its fleet.
Bruce Nobles, Air Jamaica President and Chief Executive Officer, says the fleet reduction has become necessary as the airline seeks to meet financial obligations.
Air Jamaica, which started service at Orlando International in 1990, will discontinue its four flights a week from the airport
However, low-cost carriers AirTran Airways and JetBlue Airways both launched service in February between Orlando International and Jamaica.
Effective March 9, Air Jamaica will also suspend service from New York's JFK Airport to Grenada, and effective April 12, service from Jamaica to Chicago, Curacao, Havana and Nassau will be halted.
By April 12, Air Jamaica will operate 161 weekly flights between Jamaica and five cities.
At that time, Air Jamaica will operate six aircraft, down from nine.
