Mace / pepper spray

I know I can not carry it on a plane. When I went to a safety training the sales rep told some else at the training that they would ship to Jamaica.

Do you think it could be shipped to jamaica? Would the person picking it up at the post office get in trouble?

(It is the good stuff pepper spray & tear gas mix that the police carry. The big can can spray up to 15 ft)

do you do just carry-ons or can you put it in your checked luggage? I'd be very leery of shipping <span style="font-style: italic">anything</span>....

I do check luggage. But would that be allowed in my checked luggage?

I will have to read the fine print.The large can is bigger than 4 oz. But the small can is not.

I can't help but wonder if they are legal to posses and carry on the Island. You might want to look into that. I don't know if the law is changed here, but there was a time in Wisconsin that it was the same as carrying a concealed weapon. Serious, my husband at the time got arrested for hitchhiking on the freeway back around 1970. Anyway, what was actually happening is he was getting harassed for long hair. They searched his pockets and found a small canister of tear gas (because back then people would jump out of cars and beat the guys who grew their hair, so he got it to protect himself from that).

The charge was carrying a concealed weapon and he was looking at some YEARS jail time. He went to court and said his hair was long because he was in a band, true, but the judge stayed firm and held him over for trial. At trial, husband had gotten a haircut, and the judge said that since he cut his hair they would drop the charges! Craziness eh...

So, I would first look in to if it is legal to possess a tear gos before I went ahead and shipped it. Lord only knows what kind of problems could arise if they wanted to pull a stunt like that in Ja...

You are right. I know i had to have an FID card to carry it in Boston.

The Department of State warns U.S. citizens against taking any type of firearm or ammunition into Jamaica without authorization from the Jamaican Ministry of National Security. Entering Jamaica with a firearm or even a single round of ammunition is a serious crime that can result in a long prison sentence. <span style="font-weight: bold">Mace, pepper spray and knives also are prohibited and may not be brought into Jamaica without specific authorization from the Jamaican Ministry of National Security.</span>

The U.S. State Department warning is specific to firearms and ammunitions as in guns (e.g., magnum, smith &amp; wesson, ak-47, Uzi, Bazooka) and not mace/pepper spray.

My mace is in a 2-oz canister and goes with me on local and international flights. I treat it like all other 2-oz containers which are packed in ziplock baggy and go through carryon checkpoint.

If it is 4-oz; you'll have to put in checked baggage.

Jamaica customs may just seize it if it is shipped. Seem like a waste of resource shipping a 4-oz canister.

Personally, I'd be scared about using mace/pepper spray on any Jamaican. The repercussion may not be good and worse than getting maced or pepper sprayed....
