Bulletin #64
AIRPORT FUNCTIONING NORMALLY
KINGSTON, June 15 (JIS):
Director of Aviation Security, Lieutenant Commander John McFarlane, has reassured prospective travellers to the island that operations at Kingston’s Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) remain normal and efficient.
“We are operating effectively and smoothly. We’re having no issues at all with cancellations; everything is back to normal and has been that way for some time,” he told JIS News.
“If there are cancellations, it has nothing to do with Norman Manley or Kingston or Jamaica, it might have to do with the aircraft itself or the airline itself,” he added.
Following the joint police/military operations into sections of West Kingston on Monday, May 24, some airlines, including American Airlines and Air Jamaica opted to cancel or reschedule their night flights into the island.
This was done out of concern for the comfort and safety of their passengers. However, flight operations at the airport have been back to normal for some time since the security forces took control of the West Kingston community.
