A few years ago, back in 2009 I shared a trip report that included videos of my Uncle Cecil and my mother that served to give my family and friends some background history on our roots in Jamaica (Inverness, St. Ann).
Today I decided I needed to share with my jamaicans.com friends the sad news of my mother's passing on February 5, 2011.
She was as some of you know, a vibrant woman who had overcome an earlier health issue (she needed a new kidney and received one in 2005) and enjoyed her retirement which included more time with grandkids and work on her home in Jamaica.
Unfortunately what we thought was a pinched nerve in late December turned out to be Stage IV lung cancer after a biopsy in mid January. Less then a month after that diagnosis, my mother left us.
She was not a smoker, and we think the cancer was with her for some time. But you would never know as she never complained of much pain, just the usual, which she handled with such grace.
She was too busy enjoying life with my father and loving the news of life's little joys that we would share with her. Whether it was a great college mid-term report from one of my kids or a great deal on a pair beautiful shoes that she would bring home for herself...only to call me a few days later to give to me or my daughter.
I'm reading her appointment book and there are as many comments about friends and families' appointments, birthdays, illnesses and achievements as there are actual appointments for her.
She loved to care for everyone, even as her own health declined.
Her funeral was last Saturday but here is a link to her condolences page. She always loved to read the trip reports from jamaicans.com that I would share with her and got such a kick out of the comments you shared on the video I posted here.
