Hey Laurel, I'm glad I took those pictures when I did because it is pure mud madness out there right now. Sadie is camouflaged with the color of the earth too, and it ain't pretty!

OMG Nooks! What a mess.

Met up with Schultzie and had a great lunch with her at NBCC. Their fish fingers are homemade and awesome. She is such a sweetheart and I was sad to leave her. Wanted more time to talk but had a renter arriving and had to get back. Hope we will get together in the fall when I return.

Now I'm feeding a skinny brown dog and an orange cat. Both are males but I plan to take them to Negril the first week of June and get them fixed.

Jamaica is nice this time of year.....not too hot and not too much rain. I planted flowers a couple days back. Been here a month already.....time is running.

No I never made it to the hot springs. It just seemed too long of a trip with this leg. I am slowly deteriorating to a bad limp and pain most of the day. I have resigned myself to the fact that I have to get another operation.

The brown dog brought his littermate or friend another brown dog that he favors and about the same age. They look to be about 6 months old. Just priced a 20 lb. bag of dog food made in Brazil....about $1,200 jmd. I think that's more economical than cooking for them. Can be supplemented with a can of sardines here and there.

I sent someone to farm supply store today and they came back with fish oil and flea powder. I prob. just wasted my money. Tomorrow I'm going to the vet to get worm meds.

Hi Jitters, I am looking forward to meeting you too! There will be a Spay/Neuter Clinic in Negril sponsored by the International Spay Neuter Network June 3-6 at the Negril Community Center. I've got about 8 dogs lined up to carry from Sav. I'm just praying nothing happens to them between now and then. I walked down to see Dr. Foote yesterday and got worm meds for my 2. They are eating a lot. I hope they soon get fattened up! lol.

Yes, Seeven these dogs are so nice and they alarm me if someone comes in the yard.

I've been here for over a month now and my throat has burned the entire time. I've never experienced a place whre people burn trash and plastic 24/7.....the air quality is so bad....people talk about fresh air here...I want to know where? lol. and the other complaint I have here is people throw down their trash anywhere and everywhere it really gets on my nerves. Who would want to live surrounded by trash? I've noticed in the nicer neighborhoods they don't throw it down as bad. I guess people are just ignorant. Anyhow, enough for my soap box ab out burning and trash. I've been enjoying going to the beach on the weekends. I'm going to MoBay this Easter weekend to spend some time with a gal friend over there. I'm looking forward to this. I get to take YOGA at Half Moon. Maybe the environment will be nicer.

My SIL was experiencing some chest pains which he thought was an upper resipratory infection. Because he had a heart attack last year, my daughter insisted he contact his cardiologist. Yup, 90% blocked and he was taken by ambulance to Portland Adventist to have another stent put in. his heart. He is doing fine now and will be home this afternoon.

11 more days until my operation on my back. The pain increases every day in the left leg. Yesterday my grand-daughter helped me get groceries. Good thing she went with me. No way could I reach down on any bottom shelf.

The weather is getting better with each passing day and many trees, shrubs and flowers are in bloom now. Thank the Lord for a wonderful Spring and for looking out for my family.

Keep up the good work Schultzie! Love to hear what you are doing over there.

Marnin JMiss and everyone and happy Easter! The sun came out this morning for the first time in around 10 days, and it is supposed to get into the 50's! I'm half flippin nutz from the never ending snow and rain and cold and wind that is holding me a prisoner. The sun came a little late though, my car is buried in the driveway and isn't coming out any time soon. It sunk last night as I was coming home from a day at the bead store. wah wah babypants me. I'm gonna go see if I can find some boards and try to jack it up out of the mud enough to stick some boards under it. I'm afraid a wrecker might rip the whole front end off if they have to pull it out backwards cause the whole front end is in. oh crap eh! Flippin red clay, the worst sheet in the world I say.

JMiss I might need back surgery right along side you after this episode. I'm sorry for your misery, I know how it feels, and so glad you can see light at the end of the tunnel. That is something about your SIL, whew, glad you all caught it when you did! Another lesson in live each day, for sure.

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Many families will dye Easter eggs this weekend, but a North Dakota college professor takes the tradition to the extreme.

Michael Kjelland dyes bright-colored Easter chicks by injecting chicken embryos with food coloring.

The assistant professor of biology at Jamestown College hopes it will get his students excited about science.

“I like to have fun with science,” Kjelland said. “At the same time, I do serious experiments, too. But I try and draw interest to things.”

Kjelland purchased eggs from a grocery store that gets its eggs locally and injected them with traditional food coloring during incubation.

He carefully uses sterile methods while injecting the dye with a syringe to prevent bacteria from getting inside.

He ended up with four chicks: one each of a brilliant green, pink and yellow color, and one chick that isn’t dyed.

Kjelland said if he doesn’t use enough dye, the chicks will hatch with just patches of color.

“I’ve kind of perfected it over the last couple of years,” he said.

Kjelland, originally from Valley City, worked on chicken cloning while earning a Ph.D. at Texas A&amp;M University.

Don’t try this at home unless you know what you’re doing, Kjelland warned, because if you inject the syringe too far, it could lead to problems.

“I wouldn’t recommend it for everybody unless you have experience working with incubating chicken eggs,” he said.

The color will fade after a couple of weeks as the chickens lose their down feathers and new feathers come in, he said.

The dye does not harm the chickens, Kjelland said.

For a future project, Kjelland wants to use nontoxic florescent dye to make the chicks glow under a black light.

Although this experiment is for fun, it also has scientific applications, he said.

Chicken embryos are used to test the effects of chemicals on embryo development. Kjelland also does transgenic research.

Kjelland’s daughters, 13-year-old Frida and 7-year-old Alexa, are having fun with the colored chicks. The pink one is named Chickira, playing off of the singer Shakira.

“They are really cute,” Frida said.
