Typically (all 9 times) I have only been to Negril in Jamaica...but am thinking about possibly checking out another part of Jamaica that I haven't seen...thinking about OR...or if you have suggestions of other places...hoping to get some specific information about places to stay, eat, things to do, etc. All suggestions are welcome and THANK YOU!

Re: Ocho Rios
Ochi seems to be suffering these days. Some of the once lovely natural sites like Dunn's River Falls have been exploited to the point of tackiness and many of the individuals at the "craft market' are pushy and rude. Portland may be a better option for you. I personally am not an expert on that part of the island but from all I have read and heard it is a wonderful part of Jamaica.

Re: Ocho Rios
Hi irievibes
What kind of traveler are you?
Do you like outdoor adventures, chilling on the beach, going to a session at night.
Are you coming by yourself, with someone, with a group of people?
Do you like small little places to stay, or mega resorts?
There's so much to see and do in JA, but it all depends what you like.

Re: Ocho Rios
recent reports from 2 travelers to ochi - ochi is dead - nothing to do there - and the beach is not 7-mile
that being said - i have heard good things about Rooms on the Beach and Royal Decameron (not the Mobay one)
and Dunn's is worth seeing and the ride to Nine Mile is good.
check out this trip report:

Re: Ocho Rios
I hate it when people see Negril first and THEN go to Ochiii. OChii does not stand a chance. especially if you are a beach person. THe seven mile, and beaches in Ochii, no comparison. NOw with that being said, Ochii has NEgril beat hands down on excursion possibilities, and PARTY, but if you are not a a excursion person and a party person , then what is the point???? I just got back last week and Ochii is dead as a doornail. THat being said, the day is a good time to hit some of the points of interest, THe night time party spots were still hot as ever and that part has not gone away. Honestly from the description you give as to your travel tastes I do not think you are going to dig Ochii much.

Re: Ocho Rios
Portland! You have beach, waterfalls, mountains, and the tropical rainforest. If you are looking for night time activity, you will find that in Ochi. Portland is very laid back, autical, natural but it is quiet at night time. I love Portland.
I can not remember the name of the little bar half way between Frenchman's Cove and Port Antonio, we stopped at once. The owner and his wife were the coolest couple... they had me stitches that night we stopped there for food and and liquor.
I can't wait for Christmas to be home in Jamaica.
