Jamaica this year (2012)

I am turning the big 4-0 this year and have long promised myself that this will be the year I finally visit Jamaica. Please help me out with the ideas and suggestions:

When is the best time to go ( I want to avoid hurricane season)
Where should I start?
Places to stay ( cheap, clean and will give me the best Jamaican experience)

My interest are beaches, falls, of course Bob's place, and music festivals / live shows. No country side, as I have enough of that here

best time to go this year is in late July/early August as Jamaica will have its 50th year of independece from Britain this year.

Emancipation day is August 1st and Independence day is August 6 so from end July through the 6th nuff celebrations going on.

The old saying about hurricanes still applies to Jamaica

June too soon
July stand by
August it must
September remember
October all over

but due to climate change, October and November are now 'hurricane months' while June and July are quieter months.

Easter time is a good time for Carnival if you are into the carnival scene

Others will come along with places to go , things to do, etc

Thanks Kia. I think July will probably be the best time. The plan is to go for a minimum of 2 weeks.

Congrats on your upcoming birthday!!

From your interests it sounds like Ochi may be the best part of the island for you to stay... Not far from Nine Mile, Dunns River Falls and plenty other falls, nuff nightlife too.

I don't have a lot of experience with places to stay in Ochi, but there is some listings here that are nice and affordable http://dojamaicayourway.com/category...ion/ocho-rios/

in ochi - ROOMS is the spot to stay (for now)

and you have to visit negril for a few nights

and treasure beach is awesome

portland is lush and green

are you up for a ride around the island?

@Seveen, I am up for anything, how long will a drive around the island take? . I will probably only have a maximum of 3 weeks though as I am starting a new project at work. Will look into rooms.

@Wendy, will be sure to practice some patios and fling in a few words when i get to the airport so they dont &quot;ramp&quot; with me LOL! Oh and I will have my A SO IT GOH strategically placed...

We are all going to Jamaica for the
fiftieth anniversary independence
celebration. Mom,Dad, us four kids
GranDad and GrandMom
looking forward.this is our second
trip to the land of my Mom and granparents
we could not afford to go many times before.
