Chill Accommodations for pre-Negril?

Hello fellow JAholics! Two middle aged singles femmes travelling to JA in April. Want your input on ideas to spend the first 1/2 (calling that "pre-Negril" stage) as we always end up in the "big city". The list of wishes is lengthy- but maybe you could help--I've nearly googled myself blisters!
We've previosly stayed; Little Bay, Button Bay,Duncan's Bay, Treasure Beach, Runaway Bay, Trelawny, and on other that escapes my mind.
Looking for chill/private like accommodations (Similar to Negril- but more local yocal-less tourist oriented & not near that big).
We need 1 bedroom or 2(it's ok for best friends to share). Can't really afford more than $80-90 per night. Prefer self catering...(we not fussy- no staff needed- except maybe a watchman over us to ladies)- a kitchen would be nice...and a close restaurant/bar or two. (and I AIN't talking Margaritaville type places- Mom & Pop is fine). Air conditioning, hot water, pool are NOT NECESSARY- (hot water would be at the top of the list of them)

Thinking Green Island (but is it on the beach?) Maybe Cousin's Cove? Anybody know of anything near Lance's Bay?

Trying to find something between Mo Bay and Negril, or not too far down the south coast (due to transport costs).

We have thought about renting a car...but that means we gotta think, pay attention, and be responsible....and I don't call that much of a vacation. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70371-jump.gif[/img]

Harding Hall in Green Island ... I can not even stress enuff the spendor is this property!!! they are located about 1/2 mile off the coast road - up on a hill so you have spectacular sea view. as they are only 1/2 off the coast road - walking distance to hail taxi's if you do not take your own car. Very close to BIGGA for some slammin jerk and his huge pot of soup is always on!! also - close enuff to other little local establishments for hanging.

Cassandra is the housekeeper & cook (if you want her to prepare some food) - they have on property security as well .... I am taking this place for my sister and niece to stay when they soon come.

Pool and jacuzzi ... no air / but fans, etc. ... kitchen, etc ...

google them and check them out ... reviews and reports of those that have stayed ...

also - check out Seveen's recent trip report ... she came to our Christmas Party - posted a few photos of the property .... my camera battery died that afternoon ... but - I have several other shots as well ... we drop by often for this n that.

Hillary is the manager / contact. if you are interested in speaking with her - let me know ... I can get her number for you. She is LOVELY!!! I do not have her number but my Mr. is in contact with her all the time.

There are also simple little cottages at Half Moon Beach near Orange Bay, in a lovely spot on teh water that is very secluded, and there is also Rhodes Hall when has BEAUTIFUL cottages in a setting with springs in the sea and also horseback riding.

THat is right ... Half Moon ... I visited their beach one day ... that place might be PERFECT!!!


Rhodes Hall ... I visited as well and is SPECTACULAR ... BUT - we have found them to be Non-Local friendly ... disappointed by that ~ [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif[/img]

Well, we are feeling rather adventursome...and are discussing the idea of just hiring a driver at the airport and heading one direction...and asking them to stop and let us inquire whenever we want...and just winging it. How's that sound? (Maybe that means for once I'd really ONLY be able to take 1 suitcase and 1 carryon- instead of overpacking as usual. What you all think of that? I have done this and it was big fun. That trip we ended up at Sunquest cottages next door to Chances in Negril. It was the perfect place and we found it after oh say...4 or 5 stops.
