Re: First trip report...
Awwww Bandanna, I knew you were only teasing
!
You know guys, I forgot to mention that the reason we weren't very hungry at dinner was that we'd gone to Best in the West for lunch. I'm weird about chicken, but that food was delicious. I don't even normally like spicy foods, but I ate it all- finishing a large bottle of water in the process!
So, the next morning we got up early. Correction- I got up early and kicked him until he got out of bed
. He got over it and we both quickly got dressed. I'd heard great things about the breakfast at Selina's, so I consulted my handy-dandy map and we set off down the road. We'd taken a taxi once before on the previous trip, so the cacaphony of horns and squealing brakes were not entirely unexpected. But, we plodded on and were soon walking into Selina's. We were the first to arrive and I think her girls had not even gotten off to school yet. Al ordered coffee and I had the orange juice- it was fresh-squeezed- delicious and very sweet. Next, our pancakes came out:
Mmmmm....makes we want some right now!
Can you tell someone needed to lay off the coffee??!!
Our waitress was very nice- she gave us directions to Shamrock, so that we could stock up on water and juice for the room. When we got there, I couldn't believe everything they had. I don't know how, but from everything I'd read, I somehow got it into my head that Negril was a tiny, tiny place and I would have a hard time finding the essentials there. I was wrong- if I closed my eyes, I could almost believe I was in a neighborhood store back home! If I'd known that, I wouldn't have bothered lugging five cans of mousse down on the plane (YES, THAT'S HOW MUCH I GO THROUGH IN A WEEK AT THE BEACH- DON'T JUDGE ME!!!
) At any rate, we picked up the essentials and made our way back toward the hotel.
A quick trip upstairs and we were back down on the beach. The weather was beautiful and we were in paradise! Here was Al's after breakfast snack:
I love that picture of him- he thinks he looks tough. How tough can you be holding a coconut?!
He got in the water first. I was content to sit in a beachchair and read. One thing you should know about me, I love to read. I'm the kind of dork who sits at the bar with a book in hand. I did pretty good during our week- I made it through about five books. This is me goofing off with the camera while sitting on the beach:
This is Al, pretending to swim:
So, we pretty much hung out close to home for the rest of the afternoon. Around lunchtime we were hungry again, so we walked up to Niah's. From the way people talked, I thought it was right on the beach, but we soon found out it was set a little further back. We ordered a chicken patty and it was so big that we split it. I have to say...it wasn't bad, but it wasn't my favorite either. Al however, was in love. He went back twice during the trip.
Sometime during the afternoon, I snuck inside and found a number for Rockhouse and made reservations for dinner. They scheduled us for a 5:30pm pickup, so we made sure we were ready...of course, they were late. We weren't particularly perturbed- I just amused myself by taking pictures of of the gardens:
Here's me waiting patiently for our driver:
Soon enough, the driver arrived and we were off to dinner!
I'll finish this day a little later- talking about dinner has me hungry!
