Digital Brrrrrnnnnng....brrrrrnnnnnnnng...
"Hello."
"Hello, is this Neil?"
"Yes."
"I'm throwing a show that builds schools in Jamaica. I'm interested in taking a look at Rootz Underground's avail for March 24th?"
"Is this for real? Serious?"
"As a heart attack."
"Ok...when would the band be able to visit the schools you are building."
I nearly dropped the phone. Whaaaaaaaaaat....no talk of cost, none of the usual fuggery and nonsense, just boom bang when can they get out to the schools. This is a first, and whatever may come, I wanted to put them on the show. So I did.
But first, I had to find something to open Soul Rebellion. It's our 4th year, last year we ran Mavado, then a show full of up and comers...so...who to present as our opener?
Concurrently, we had a shoot developed that was going to be a documentary...so we needed a story to go along with whoever was going to open the event...time to bell Bounty.
In 5 minutes, the Warlord agrees, BOOM BANG KABOOM, I have the shows lined up...the documentary crew is incredibly psyched they get to interview Killa. Everyone knows the classic rivalry that exists between Beenie and Bounty. What many people don't seem to consider is that Bounty can sometimes be a lot more popular, he goes a little more unsung, so dropping him on a show with the right timing can be magic. Last year spring break didn't go too well for Killa, he was on two back to back shows and they both got messed up. So he was ripe for a cross, angry, miserable return, plus he was on some new positive hype.
Everything came together in 2 days time- super last minute. It was rough this year, money was well tight, we had a press conference in November, Soul Rebellion as an event was catching notice from many of the powers that be, so we NEEDED to launch...
We landed on Saturday, and hammered up our banner.

Then flooded the streets with daytime 4x4's...
