Been a while since I posted a report. Hope I remember how…

Well, here it goes…

Bought Jennifer Hudson’s cd Friday night…**Jennifer Hudson** is the title just in case anyone was interested. I almost slid it back where I found it after eyeing the $13.88 price label glued to the plastic case. 12 cuts 4 of those I know I will hate and never listen to unless for some reason I can’t press FF/Skip in time. In that case it will play but I won’t hear what makes me hate it. I’ll only hear music.

I wanted it so its mine.

I also bought a Gladys Knight and the Pips cd. “Love Songs” a 12 track cd of their old stuff. 6 titles I don’t recognize. That one is going back.

I’m sorting my clothes tonight. The annual seasonal wardrobe switch has begun. The depressing ritual of packing away lightweight summer wear in plastic see-thru bins then pulling out the dark, heavy thick clothes for the dreaded cold weather ahead. The joys and pains of living in the northeast. I listen to Jennifer while I fold and pack.

Shorts! I wore them in Jamaica. Most of these clothes were with me in August. Some were worn, some weren’t. I will never pack perfectly. My inability to select the exact amount of clothes I will wear each reach has nothing to do with me being a female. I know some men who could fill a small warehouse with clothes and shoes for a 5 day stay. I basically over pack…always did, always will.

I slowly reach for the black knit top decorated with shimmering sequins sewn throughout the front. I hold it up then bring it close to my eyes. Do I dare??? I ask myself the top is just inches from my inquisitive nose. Should I put myself through the torture? It’s been weeks therefore all traces of her essence should be gone. Right??? I lift the top to my face and inhale. The heavenly aroma hits my sensory alarm that awakens my senses and rushes me, mind body and heart back to the Rock. Particularly standing on the ocean’s boundary hearing, seeing, smelling, beholding the majestic Caribbean….anticipating the next flirtatious wave to seduce my toes with a warm, wet kiss.

Ahhh Jamaica. The memories of my last visit caused me to forget to fold. I pause. August 2009, Negril/ATI…Ocho Rios…Montego Bay…Appleton White Rum.

No, sorry, can’t reflect on that visit, not at this time. But I need to be in Jamaica regardless. I truly think trips/getaways should be an approved medical expense covered by one’s healthcare provider. One trip to Jamaica replaces 6 months of approved therapist/councilor visits, nuh true?? I came up with the idea when I saw that such preventive medical attention was covered 100%. I don’t need dr. bills and pills to help me reconnect with me, I only need Jamaica.

Pay for that Aetna!

Well anyway, I’m missing Jamaica, as I said, so of course my misery is intensified, (not intentionally) by a friend of mine calls to say he will be there for 4 weeks. I couldn’t even pretend to be happy for him because I didn’t want to be. So I made some excuse to get off the phone, pouted and pulled out my pictures and notes.

Decided to share a highlight from 2008. The afternoon Meeyah and I sailed with a small group over to Booby Cay. I haven’t seen many, if any, reports or snippets about the tiny island that sits North? West? South? East? of Negril.

I got a few pictures and videos to post, not much. Sprinkled in narrative to give it a little life, afraid not much of that either. The purpose is to chat about a “nice little something to do” when in Negril and to break away from this funk.

Yes, I want to hear about Booby Cay, all my previous plans to go there were somehow washed away, so I'm looking forward to reading and seeing

Negril August 2008 was a good reach, not as good as August 2009, but lots of fun memories just the same.

Early afternoon post-Gustav, Meeyah and I found ourselves idle on lounge chairs. No we were not alone as plenty people rode out the storm and didn’t bail. In fact, quite a few gustav survivors are roaming about and enjoying the sunshine as if nothing happened a couple of days ago.

That water, however, was still in an agitated state so we didn’t go in. Meeyah read and I became restless and got up to gather green gems from the beach and place them in a small, black plastic bag I found stuck on a stem at the root of a tree.. A voice from nowhere ; “Those are almonds.” I knew that, but still asked him to explain.

He wasn’t interested in how many I gathered nor did he help. He said all he could say about the fallen green pods then disappeared. Or maybe it was my concentrating on gathering the almonds instead of listening to him that made him feel like an intruder and move on. All I know is once the bag was full, he was gone.

Now what?

Undisturbed moments allowed me to be creative in making a memory. After the storm hundreds of almonds laid scattered over the beach like jade colored gems.

Thanks <span style="font-weight: bold">Laurel</span>. Saw this guy raking the beach shortly after I finished. I glanced down at my little project and bid goodbye as I knew it was going to be erased from the sand. So surprised to see it still there after we returned. Rake tracks all around it, but not a nut disturbed.

Didn't get a shot of that.

We (Meeyah and I) didn’t talk about gustav and how it naturally subjugated 57 hours of our stay. We didn’t talk about gustav because like all hurricanes/storms they come and go. The sun is back and we still have 88 hours before our departure from Negril. Still plenty of time to squeeze in some fun stuff.

NO IT ISN’T

But we will try.

I can’t sit here and the waters are too ruff and too dirty with sea debris for swimming. Plus my back is killing me from picking up all those almonds. I needed to be out there.

“Let’s sail out, Meeyah. Let’s get on someone’s boat and get out there.”

“Ok.”

“I’ll call captain Evers to see if he’s going out.”

“Who?”

Just as I was searching for the number, I see captain Billy trudging the thick, hot sand heading in our direction.

“Me book a group to snorkel and buy lobstah pon de island deh. You ladies wantta go?”

Me: “Oh yeah? Well…who’s going? How many? How much you charging us?”

Meeyah: :Girl please!!! Yes Billy, We will go.”

I dash to my room for music, red stripe and white rum (boiler maker is what it’s called). I get back in time to see the group load the boat. Meeyah and I are last. Had mixed feelings about sailing with this group, or any group for that matter. (I'm a selfish sailee.) It’s usually just Meeyah, me and the captain. On the surface, they didn’t appear to be a fun bunch.
