Oh man, <span style="font-weight: bold">SistaCtry</span>, the older I get, the fear becomes more intense. My son and his girlfriend have two huge cats. They haffi lock dem up when me visit. </div></div>

<span style="font-weight: bold">SistaCtry</span>, Thanks for sticking around. It was a nice outing just being there. I find that every location in or around Jamaica has a story. So to make my visits more interesting and memorable I do research on the places I visited. This island has a lot of potential. I’m surprised it hasn’t been snatched up by foreign developers. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time.

But for now, it’s the boat captains’ and lobster fishers’ great little secret. No entrance fee, no chairs to rent. You don’t even have to wear clothes if don’t wanna. LOL…. Serious, you make your time there, “your” experience. One of my economically friendly and fun things to do in Jamaica.

Ahhhhh lobstahhhhhhhh

Meeyah nor I got one and we both regretted not doing so. The guys (it was about 4 of them) lugged a net full of lively lobsters onto the sand for the group to examine, chat $$$ then choose their meals. No one selected the largest one or the smallest one. Those were ours (sad face goes here). Once the business details were out of the way, the group swam and snorkeled while their food was being prepared…from scratch….from the ocean to the grill to the mouth.

The guys went to work starting the fire in the grill. Or at least trying to start it. The sticks and tree limbs were still pretty damp as a result of you know who….

Amost missed this question <span style="font-weight: bold">SistaCtry</span>, from what I'm told they are wild domestic cats. The few I saw (the lobster guys keep them away from the cooking/sunbathing area) look like they don't play. They probably survive off the Booby birds. Some do still land there to breed but may never leave. They become kittie meals.

Okay, the dinner guests head to the ocean to swim I stick close to the “table”. His knife was as experienced as he as he split the still very much alive lobster open.

“Can I take pictures of you doing what you do?”

“No problem. You like lobster?”



“Yes I do. Wish I had the money to get one. Next time.”

“You can come back tomorrow.”



“I’m afraid it will have to wait until my next visit.”

He was cool. Just accepted my answer and continued hackin and cutting.



I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the table. He worked fast at splitting each lobster in half. Not all the way through and not enough to kill them.

I leave the butcher table to check on Meeyah. Of course she was okay. I know she is missing the girls as much as I am, however she misses one in particular the most. Her beautiful, grown daughter she affectionately calls “Tink”. The girls (5 of them) lifted off hours before Gustav touched down. They had a blast and adapted to Jamaica much better than I thought they would. We missed them, but welcome the “I” time. That’s how Meeyah and I do Jamaica….us…we…and me. And we never let one get in the way of the other. We know when the other needs to be in their space pon the rock.

Interesting facts about Booby Cay that I never knew.


I have only once been to the small island. It was almost 9 years ago. Wow. Time flies...

My first time in Jamaica.

Day 2, I took a snorkel trip and we stopped at Booby Cay. The snorkel trip included drinks so I had left all my money at the hotel. I had also left my sunblock, and after a couple hours on the boat I was FEELING IT! When we got to Booby Cay I was red like that lobster you posted

One of the ladies came to rub me down with aloe. I explained to her that I had no money but she did not care. She told me not to worry bout the money and that I must take care with the Jamaican sun. She rubbed my poor parched skin all over with the aloe, every once in a while kissing her teeth at my burn When I was fully lathered in the healing gel-like plant she gave me a stalk to take home and the sweetest smile...

Thanks for joining this short ride and thanks for sharing your memory. I’ve been the recipient of kindnesses such as yourself. Particularly regarding the sun and protecting myself from it. The worse was being burnt from shoulder to shoulder. A sweetheart of a guy searched for aloe, returned to me and rubbed my back and shoulders. Instant relief. Now I always buy a stalk or two to keep on hand.

Wow…nine years ago??? I guess from my pictures, not much has changed about the island?

WOW talk about bringing back memories. First and foremost I want to say thank you for introducing JA to me, She came in my life when I needed her most and continues to stay right by my side. I cannot go a day without searching for something that will bring back the memories, the smell, the sun and water - that I miss so much. THANK YOU HONEY. It was such a thrill to introduce her to my Tink. I knew she would accept her just as I have.

Booby Cay - It took me forever to get you to consider taking a ride over there. I told you the cats wouldn't bother you. For those of us that LOVE CATS - there are a few large kitties over there, but they paid us no mind. AND those lobsters OMG talk about looking delish after they were grilled up - can't wait to go back just for that.

Can't wait for more - I &quot;know&quot; you have lots more....
