) Yeah, I was so indecisive about that boat ride that I couldn’t make up my mind and I knew I was driving you and Billy insane. So glad you took control and made the decision for both of us We had some wicked fun that afternoon…

The lobsters have been split, cleaned and are slowly letting go of life while more wood is being added to heat the grill.
The guy who prepped the lobsters is on his cell. The conversation turned personal so I leave to give him his privacy and decide to disturb Meeyah’s peace. She’s intently gazing at the ground as if she was looking for something. I’m talking to her, but she continues looking at the sand and debris. She then casually points and says
“Look…aren’t those…um…what do you call them?”
“What? What do you call what?”
“Those little things in the shell crawling in the sand.”
“What little things? What are you pointing to???”
For the life of me, I could not see what the heck she was talking about or pointing at. Then, it moved…they moved…all of them are moving…
Baby hermit crabs! Everywhere! The sight of them made me giddy…like a child seeing a bug for the first time, but not afraid of it.
My youngest got me to buy him one when he was 5. He was really into that thing. Gave him a name along with food and shelter. When the weather began to change he borrowed a gooseneck lamp from my room to allow the light bulb to keep the creature warm. One day I opened the bedroom window and forgot to close it later that evening. Well....the cold night air did him in.

They were cool to watch. Wanted to scoop up 4 or 5 and carry them with me to the room. But Meeyah said no they probably wouldn't live through the night. I knew she was right but it was so cool to watch them. I'm such a kid sometimes. It's the little things I find so entertaining.

Le Hermit Crab…..
…returns to the sea to deposit their eggs. Due to this they cannot breed in captivity.
…live for a couple years as pets, however some have been kept for over 20 years in captivity.
…are nocturnal. They move around a lot more at night then during the day
…will eat apples, grapes, cheese, steak, and meatballs.
…with a purple claw may snap a pencil in two.
…There are 800 species of hermit crabs and 6000 species of regular crabs.
…relatives are spiders and lobsters.
…will drown if kept underwater too long.
…is not a true crab.
…when it gets too big for its shell, it moves to another one.
…It is not easy to detect if a hermit crab is a boy or a girl.Comment
