I just picked some dates, and booked a trip. I did not have the money I needed and a Friend who lives there was gracious enough to say "If you can bear to be off your beach for a minute, you can come and stay with me."

So I packed myself up and went to Jamaica for 10 days on a new type of adventure. This trip I stayed in a real neighborhood off of the hedonistic and self indulgent 7 mile.

I'm in heaven. This place has all everything one could want, and when I stepped in there was just this immediate feeling of a home away from home. She has really done her homework..if there is a concern or a fear that one might have living abroad, it is not here.

My friend said to me that the test is if she can lay her head down in a place and sleep that it is ok.

Let me tell you about my first night.

The music of the night in Jamaica.

I had concerns about not having air conidtioning. No problem...Jamaica supplied a sweet breeze that waifted through the house all night. The next morning I was crying for a blankie.

My lullaby consisted of
Tree frogs
motorcylces racing the street
the faint sound of distant music
the gentle clinking of dishes from the next door neighbor's house
dogs barking, fighting, whinning'the crow of roosters at untold hours
the sound of the breeze

Where to start..while pictures are downloading I can say that my first awakening in Jamaica, that wonderful sweet smelling morning in which you wake up and realize you are not in Kansas anymore, but you are in Jamaica, I woke up to the sound of flip flops.

Around and around the house they circled, in the early dawn, barely light outside. Since our resident yard dog and the female one next door were not going ballistic, I had enough yard sense already to realize that these must be good flip flops.


I heard the sound of raking and scraping and dumping, yet I lay still and quiet as the mistress of the house was not awake yet. I don't want to get tossed out my first day, so I will not awaken her from her slumber.

I later learn that the flip flop sound is someone who takes METICULOUS care of the yard we live in. Not a leaf or an errant flower is allowed to stay on the ground. You could prepare your breakfast, skip the plate and go out there and eat off the front yard. The curb ,the area out front, everything is squeekie clean. I go out to chat with him and be officially introduced to our yard dog. I had sworn on a thousand bibles never to have anything to do with a dog of that breed, but this one is so sweet, I fall in love, and as I am missing my babies back home, during the trip is was so nice to have him around.

Of course my first real day in Jamaica I must go to the beach. And of course, beach to me means FOR REAL. So I get a lovely breakfast, call the driver and head to FOR REAL. The minute I get there I never left. That is all I can say. The entire family, guests I know, staff, everyone is there. It's like stepping back in time for a while. The sea is still rough and cold, so the sun and I just have a day, but I am too excited because tonight is Tarrus Riley.

This picture can really define my trip. I started with Tarrus and I will end with Shaggy on my last night in Jamaica.

This time when I picked these dates, I just pulled them out of the sky. And OF COURSE I find that the day I am leaving is the good show..Shaggy... so I just changed them and stayed ONE MORE DAY, but that does not help me as next week in Jah CUre and I wanna be there for that too

Most artist have a meet and greet after the performance, but if you didn't fork over the extra 50.00, forget it, you muh meet Shaggy,

So back to Tarrus....MAGICAL night....colddddddddd yep, we were snatching table cloths off the table and wrapping up in them. THe vendors had to shut down as the sea was doing her thing, and when his voice hit a cresendo, a splash from the sea came almost to the stage....Oh my
