I've already shared in this forum a few pictures from my trip to the country in March. My little cousin took a lot more pictures than I did so I thought I'd share some more here. Nothing fancy, I just have a love for Jamaican country life and thought I'd a post few more pics here for those who are interested.

My kids with their cousins. My kids (the two kids in the sweltering hot pants) have been to Jamaica many times but this was a 1st time trip for their cousins. The occasion was sad but at the same time happy as the kids' cousins had an opportunity to see where their family came from.

A sad occasion (we took my mother home for her burial), but for me a beautiful image. Village residents and friends and family from Canada...walking back to the house.

My mother use to talk about Tooting Hall United Church all the time - it was the church in which she was baptized 70 years ago. We were so happy to hold her final service here (her funeral Mass was in Canada).

I can't tell you what it felt like to see, greet and speak to all the old family and friends who gathered into this little church on that day. That was a blessing to US. True to my preferences and experiences this service was only a little over 1 hour (a shock to many) but every word shared and song sung was meaningful and to the point.

I miss this place...

You must be Roman Catholic. Mass and ceremonies are usually shorter in time than most other denominations.

On Ash Wednesday I wanted to find a Catholic church to attend but couldn't find anyone who would be going to an Ash Wednesday service. The closest offer I got was from my Mom's cousin who invited me to join her for Ash Wednesday service at the Anglican church in Brownstown.

My brother and I went - it was a lovely service, however they planned on &quot;continuing&quot; after a break for lunch at 12 p.m. The service started at 10 a.m. and 2 hrs is 1 hr too long in my book. So I asked my Aunt D for our leave. Being the concerned 88 year old that she is, she tapped on the shoulder of one of her church friends to ask if he could show my brother and I to the cab depot area in Brownstown.

Now this gentleman was maybe 90 but more athletic and spry than my brother or me! After getting directions from Aunt D that he was to find a &quot;reliable and proper cab driver&quot; for us or else...he happily led us through the streets of Brownstown to the cab area, before returning to the afternoon portion of church...

Brown`s Town has some really historic churches just by the architecture and that pipe organ behind your aunt.

I too could not tolerate lengthy church services, mass as what we Catholics call it.

I always hoped that the priests sermon would be brief, because most of the time the priest gets carried away and time stretches on laboriously with each utterance.

An afternoon visit with friends near Ocho Rios. I use to babysit the woman I'm sitting with (on the right) when she was just 8 or 9 years old. Her mother and my mother were best friends in Canada. I felt as sad for her mother as I did for my own loss.

I hadn't seen G (in-person) since my teens (and her childhood years). Funny how these events bring people back together. That &quot;little girl&quot; is now a doctor in the U.S....time flies.

I think that's a universal sentiment for Catholics...once Communion's over we start pulling on coats, shuffling feet...one verse of the recessional hymn - an we're outa there

I celebrate our faith most in what we do to serve the poor, the most vulnerable and in need. Case in point: My father and his 10 brothers received an outstanding education in Jamaica (Kingston) during the 1940's and 1950's--an education that they would not have otherwise had or could have afforded without the support of the Catholic church. The educational tradition continued for my kids here in Canada (where Catholic schools are publicly funded and are wonderful places for students).

I had my share of time with the Jesuits as I guess your men did too. They apart from being priests were Jacks of all trades. Chemist and physics teachers. Maths and language tutors. They were widely travelled. One in particular Fr. Flaucher had just come from Iran back in about `69. He was a stocky and serious hombre.
So serious was he that one time where I had spoken out of turn during Gen Science class he summarily banged me on the top of my head with his fist, which felt like a sledge hammer. Never again would I chat in his class.

So true...though there are some here that miss not having her closer to us here in Canada. The family is generally happy that that she is where she would want her final resting place to be.
