Calgary Trip

So last week I went to Cowtown for a 4 day conference which was a blast

I tried to remember to take pictures so I got a few snapped of the city. See CEW, I remembered your request

Since I was mainly downtown and just outside downtown most of the shots are for those areas. The city has changed a lot since I was there 3 years ago. A lot more immigrants and brown ppl since I last remembered.

Here is the hotel I stayed at - the Blackfoot Inn. It isnt close to the airport but I would recommend it. Really good food and hotel service:




the hotel is named after a First Nations tribe. Throughout the hotel was some amazing black & white prints. Just beautiful and haunting stuff. Here are a few that turned out alright:

I saw some lovely gardens along a road called Elbow Drive but we were travelling too fast for me to take any good pictures. Maybe next time later in the summer I can walk the area and take some shots.

Oh yes, we when to this incredible Indian restaurant Friday night. The food was off the hook good. It is a small place but it was constantly busy which is a good sign. Plus most of the crowd was Indian as well so you know it is good Met some great ppl at the restaurant and picked up two clients will chatting with the ppl around us Also met 2 Iranian guys who wanted to go Salsa dancing with me and my friend. She was game but I politely declined

I was there for 5 days but 4 days was spent in inside Conference rooms in the hotel

I tried to take as many pix as I could when were went out but alot of them were when the sun was going down. I am apparently not a very skilled night photographer

I'll be going back this month again to visit some friends so I'll take some more pix then CEW and maybe some of the Devonian Gardens too

Cool; the Gardens is a fabulous place and no visit to Calgary is complete without it It will be closing on October 1st for extensive upgrading/renovations, with the work expected to last about 18 months. Should be something extra special when they're done.

And don't forget to hustle over to China Town

Okay, I have made my to-do list for yah! I'll be making one trip there again in July and then another in August when my family from england arrives

It is I u didnt catch the <span style="font-weight: bold">Mrs </span>part? the dragon slayer is SpengDon cause he put dahJah in his place for me <span style="font-style: italic">(just a joke we are running)</span>

actually, the title was stolen from a awards speech that Jim Carrie made many years ago when he was dating Lauren whatshername

When he was accepting his acting award, he thanked her for her love and said, <span style="font-weight: bold">&quot;...and for this woman, I would slay any dragon.&quot; </span> I thought it was a beautiful way to express his love. I have always been into the King Arthur, knights of camelot stuff so it appealed to me.

So any man that is good to me is my dragon slayer

anyway - yes the prints in this hotel were incredible. I took other pix but because of the glare you cant make them out.

The pic you quoted is of a chief with his wife and child. I remembered the name up until yesterday - he had done something historic......

Next time, try it without the flash. If the lighting is bad and you must use the flash, try taking the picture at an angle instead of standing in front of the subject. That way the glare isn't bouncing back at you, but should deflect away. You may have to try this a couple of times, and in different situations, to find the best way to do it. Flash will always bounce of glass, which is the glare you referred to.

Next Tip: When you upload to Photobucket, use the 800x600 resize option. That way someone do not have to do the horizontal scroll to admire your pics

I have a 22&quot; wide screen monitor so I forget that the width of pix can cause issues for others. oops.
