I wanted this to be posted here, cause there was talk about it here in this section.. hope this is okay I put it here 
About Malaria... it kills 3,000 every day in Africa. BUT, it's mostly in the rural areas, and it's mostly the very young or very old.
I did not take any anti-malaria drugs, due to the horrible side effects! One that really freaked me out was the chance of becoming psychotic! There are many other bad side effects and the pills themselves cost $2 a day, so over 4-5 months that's a lot of money....
Just take the necessary precautions... mosquito net, don't go out certain time of day/night, wear light colored clothing, use repellant cream and stay away from the water's edge,... although I lived by the water for 5 weeks and never had a problem
The biggest thing I think is this... if you are healthy to begin with and catch it at an early stage, it IS very treatable. I know of someone who has had it 3 times now and has lived through it each time Sick for 2 days only....
